Ask a Bartender. That was a perfect Pour.

a bit too much foam. the reason bar owners like to pour that much head is as a cost saver. more foam = more beers out of each keg

Pretty close to perfect, yep, but true, a little too much head on it.  Normally you're going to want about 3/4 that amount.  But, not bad for a machine.

I used to be a bartender, and that much head would have gotten me complaints.

Ditto...  then again, where I tended, they were cretins and didn't want ANY head on it and budweiser was considered a top of the line beer.  Wouldn't know what to do if I'd have given them a nice guinness with 1.25" head with shamrock.  Probably have a massive coronary and fall off the bar stool dead on the floor.  I should have tried it.

I don't drink any more, and you can call me a cretin if you want, but when I used to drink, if I ordered a glass of beer, then I expected a glass of beer....not 3/4 of a glass of beer with a bunch of froth on top. And if the bartender persisted, first there would be no tip, and second, I'd be looking for a different bar.

**Bashing Head on Desk**

Okay after research it looks like there is a little too much head.

However the Glass does not appear to have a widget meaning that without that ammount of head the bear would actually get flat before the beer got warm. Thus for that particular glass that beer was perfect. However if it were a MUG or a BEER STEIN then the Perfect head would actually be the thickness of a dime as the widget stamped in the bottom of the glass would cut down on the releasing of the Carbondioxide being released within the bear as the bubbles rise.

Who just learned more about BEER and Bartenders and that NO ONE AGREES ON BEER HEAD....... PERIOD.

It takes 3 full minutes to pour a perfect guinness from a tap. Not too much head, but just enough so the beer doesn't go flat.

You are right about that.Beer is a very personal thing, which is why finding a barmaid (or tender, but in my experience it has been the barmaids who do it best) who pours your pint just the way you like it is a thing to be treasured. I used to frequent one particular bar a lot, and I happen to like a little less head on my Guinness (about 3/4") and mentioned that to her..and whatdayaknow? From then onmy Guinney came poured just the way I like it...she got good tips from me!

The last Guinness I had was poured exactly that way.
