Wasn't sure which off-topic forum to post to.

Either way it is not fair..

According to this article if you don't have healthcare insurance, you are gonna get fined.

I am one of the unlucky unemployed masses that are too poor to afford it and ineligible for a medical card. So, of course I look forward to more financial issues added to an already bad situation. If I could afford to pay the fine I could more than afford to pay for insurance.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

That's the point of the fine. If you are employed and don't choose to get insurance through teh employer or buya plan elsewhere you would pay $3800 in extra taxes to reimburse the government when it winds up footing the bill when you get sick.

If you unemployed or don't make enough to afford insurance it won't affect you at all.

And if you don't get sick, do you get your $3800 back? Of course that is the maximum penalty. If I read the article right a family of 4 would have to be making $66,000 to be charged the max. And if you think about it, I am sure that family has lots of extra cash laying around for insurance.

A family of 4 should have insurance if they make 66k per year. If they don't that is a very bad choice and the rest of society shouldn't be on the hook for them when they get sick.

Funny, in the arguments in the US, I hear a lot about European health care and Canadian health care but have never heard a peep about health care in Australia, NZ, or any Asian countries.

1. they should get rid of the FDA, and the AMA.
2. stop all rx ads

but the icing on the cake is no bid rx contracts on medicare part D.

I view this debate as one insurance group corp against another corp.

It is essentially some big corporations fighting over profit centers.

So - I dont get too upset over it.
