Hi servant, I've experienced the same - most Blacks I know call themselves "Black," just like most Whites I know say "White" instead of "Caucasian." I can see how things like CM would be more formal, but still, the term "Black" is more encompassing than "African American." I remember reading a blog once by an Indigenous Australian woman, she said that she was asked once if it was hard to care for "African-American hair" and her response was something like "Well, I'm neither African nor American so I wouldn't know."
