It happened a few weeks ago. Here's the column that was printed in the Oakland Tribune. HERE.

oh, god, hon... *hugs*

I'm so sorry this happened to you.  I'm glad you weren't killed!

And I agree that there IS a culture of silence... generally, the only times this kind of thing gets significant media coverage is when it happens to an elderly woman, or a disabled person.   Sad.

Courage. Remember that you have got two books published. You are a successful writer.

I am so sorry too little sarbonn. They can't take your talent, yourself, your you, away- ever. If they could steal it ( even more than your letters and words) they still wouldn't be able to use it. But, you can.

You ARE a brave man.

I am so sorry.
About the glasses, have you contacted your local lion's club? It's worth looking into their vision program.

Wow...i am so sorry this happened to you but thank heavens you are alive to talk about it..

I've been reading the newspaper and the blotter reports indicate that it's very possible these guys are on somewhat of a rampage. Yesterday, 3 individuals meeting somewhat the same description robbed a 22 year old man on the bus, taking his iPod, his wallet and everything he had AT GUNPOINT. Article didn't say anything about how the driver reacted, but the robbers got away without any problems.

A few days ago, there was a report of three guys robbing a couple almost at the same spot I was (except it was in the area where the police indicated I SHOULD walk instead of where I walked before). The guy ran away from his girlfriend and made it to the BART cage. They robbed her of everything and then ran off.

Police don't seem to care, apparently.

Caring and having manpower to be everywhere is something else.
And the boyfriend also ought to be shot. She's lucky she was just robbed, it could have been worse.

Definately not a "Dominant" that one!
The cops will start "caring" when these animals kill someone.
Don't you people carry guns out there? We don't see that kind of stuff very often in this state except around Christmas at the malls once in a while.
Two years ago two guys tried to carjack a guys car and his girlfriend pulled a pistol out of the glove box and shot both of them.

littlesarbonn -> RE: I got mugged and here's a link to the published article about it (9/12/2009 2:19:25 PM)

You know, popeye1250, to be honest, if I would have been armed when it happened to me, I'd probably be dead right now. I'm starting to realize these 3 are probably armed, and they blindsided me where I never even saw it coming, and I'm a combat veteran who was trained to always see it coming. Training didn't do a thing as it was that fast, and I never even had a chance to give anything back during the encounter.

Now, I can be robbed by a ten year old because my right arm barely moves since the encounter. I mean, it moves, but it's so painful to move it any distance that I'd basically be fighting with one arm now. I need physical therapy, but that's not going to happen until I get an actual job.

What is the damage to that arm? Is or was there any other damage to your body? Do you notice an improvement in the harm done to you?

mnottertail -> RE: I got mugged and here's a link to the published article about it (9/12/2009 3:20:30 PM)

ask the cops if there is anything in the victims fund, as well as the other stuff.

stella41b -> RE: I got mugged and here's a link to the published article about it (9/12/2009 3:38:30 PM)

I'm really sorry littlesarbonn about this. Words fail me. They really do.

As a fellow writer who has also lost work I know just how great a loss that truly is, I know what it's like to walk that tightrope between destitution and success. Cold comfort I know, but having read your posts, your words, your thoughts I have every confidence that you will come back from this, you are the one with the ideas, please remember that.

But even these words seem futile. But if there was something I could do.. I couldn't go as far as an iPod or a new pair of glasses, due to my own limited means, but if there was a way of getting it to you and if it helped you to at least get a new pair of glasses I would happily make some gesture towards making that possible for you.

I'm just so very sorry..,.

I recall when I got hit by a taxi. It was at least a month before I had recuperated from the hurt (nothing serious, but the door key in my back pocket was bent ninety degrees and could be thrown away. So maybe your arm will function somewhat better in another two weeks.

Crooks suck.  I hate criminal types, or psuedo criminal types.  You are right you are lucky you did not carry a weapon or that could have been used on you.  I am up for a sending a few bucks your way for glasses.  Sears sometimes has 2 for 1 deals and the prices are not horrifying.  Being blind myself  without my glasses I cannot stand that anyone has to bear that fate.  message me off list.

I am not financially worth a shit, LS.. but if I can help for the glasses, let me know.  I HATE not being able to 'see'.  I'll do what I can........

Every state has a "Victims of Crime" program, although it goes by different names in different states.  If you have not already made a police report, you will need to do so.  It's a requirement to get help from the program.

Here is a fact sheet on the program in California.  The second page of that document has phone numbers for the program in each county.

Here is a quick reference guide to what the program covers.  It specifically lists "eyeglasses... taken, lost or destroyed by the crime, or that became necessary due to the crime".  The maximum medical benefit is $70,000.  If you need some counseling, that is covered up to 40 sessions.

If the office in your county is anything like ours, you don't have to do much other than call and meet with a victim advocate.  If you have not made a police report yet, they will help you do so.  They have other resources available as well.  If you want to fill out the application yourself or before you call, it is available here.

It took me some time to write up that post and get the links, but I just want to reiterate that your glasses most likely can be replaced at no cost and you can see a doctor for your hurt arm at no cost to you.  Please check out the links above.

This is exactly why I have Herr Sig Sauer and 35 of his 125gr .357 Speer Gold Dot friends in a retention holster with me whenever possible.  Of course, in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia, self defense ist verboten, either with a weapon or harsh words is the same in their eyes.  The old adage of "When seconds matter, the police are a half hour away" is so true.
