That march in DC today should be a wake up call for every democrat and fence sitting (moderate) republican out there. That demonstration was not anti Obama, it was anti spending. I think the pendulam as finally turned.

Lucylastic -> RE: DC Tea Partyers Drown Out Live CNN Broadcast (9/12/2009 7:20:04 PM)

pendulums dont turn, they swing.
worms turn....
oh that works

servantforuse -> RE: DC Tea Partyers Drown Out Live CNN Broadcast (9/12/2009 7:30:16 PM)

This time the pendulum has turned. The democrats will be turned out in 2010. Then it will swing to the right.

Government-aligned "news" shows are becoming increasingly unpopular:

The Boise Tea Party protest march amazed me, the turnout was fantastic. I got pictures and video, and I may post some and link to it a little later on.

Yes, this is certainly something to be proud of, a bunch of screaming idiots acting like schoolchildren when the teacher leaves the room.

I have to disagree with you, servant. 60,000 demonstrators is a nice afternoon, but it's not an overwhelming groundswell. Further, I think there's a tremendous doubt out there that the republicans would spend less than the democrats. There is still a good memory of the runaway spending under the Bush administrations. In fact, the last time we had a surplus instead of a deficit was when Clinton was president.

I really think in order to take back a significant amount of political clout, the republicans are going to have to do better than "we're less bad than the democrats" and start coming up with some actual ideas for cutting government spending as a whole. Were I a republican, I would have thought that this would be a very good time to start examining democratic bills and presenting workable alternatives that would cost less rather than taking the position that it is far better to let things stay as they are because fixing them would cost money.

Thousands of downtown DC protesters blast Obama

WASHINGTON – Tens of thousands of protesters fed up with government spending marched to the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, showing their disdain for the president's health care plan with slogans such as "Obamacare makes me sick" and "I'm not your ATM."

The line of protesters clogged several blocks near capitol, according to the D.C. Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency. Demonstrators chanted "enough, enough" and "We the People." Others yelled "You lie, you lie!" and "Pelosi has to go," referring to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

Throngs of people waved U.S. flags and held signs reading "Go Green Recycle Congress" and "I'm Not Your ATM." Men wore colonial costumes as they listened to speakers who warned of "judgment day" — Election Day 2010.

I really love this.

It's better than watching Comedy Central.

From your link:

Lawmakers also supported the rally. Rep. Mike Pence, chairman of the House Republican Conference, said Americans want health care reform but they don't want a government takeover.

"Republicans, Democrats and independents are stepping up and demanding we put our fiscal house in order," Pence, of Indiana, told The Associated Press.

"I think the overriding message after years of borrowing, spending and bailouts is enough is enough," Pence said.

Sooooooooo...........................who does Rep. Spence, chairman of the House Republican Conference, believe was in charge during those "years of borrowing, spending and bailouts"?

We shall soon see if this was a small group that the democrats will ignore. If they do, it will be their downfall in 13 short months.

I have called it before and I'll call it again: in '10, the republicans will pick up some seats in the election but not enough to regain the majority. You can save this post if you like and if I'm wrong, I'll be glad to have a hearty plate of crow.

Sanity -> RE: DC Tea Partyers Drown Out Live CNN Broadcast (9/12/2009 8:53:37 PM)

The media seemed impressed by the turnout:

quote:

The demonstrators numbered well into the tens of thousands, though the police declined to estimate the size of the crowd. Many came on their own and were not part of an organization or group. But the magnitude of the rally took the authorities by surprise, with throngs of people streaming from the White House to Capitol Hill for more than three hours.

Authorities in the District do not give official crowd estimates, but Saturday's throng appeared to number in the many tens of thousands. A sea of people surrounded the Capitol reflecting pool, spilling across Third Street and along the Mall. The sound system did not reach far enough for people at the edges of the rally to hear the speakers onstage.

Wow... tens of thousands... That's pretty impressive alright.

Of course, it's nothing compared to "The Million Mom March" back in 2000, that had an attendance of 750,000...

Or we could compare it to last year's Comic Con, which had an attendance of 175,000...

Yup. This "huge protest against Obama" (i.e. a gathering of racist a-holes) was a FRACTION of the size of a yearly comic book/science fiction/gaming convention, whose numbers were down, thanks to the tight economy.

But that's okay, Sanity. It's not the size of what you've got, it's how loudly you shout at the top of your lungs in public, right?

I must compliment you on the use of ComiCon (Was that San Diego?) numbers in comparison to the numbers at said protest.  Extremely good point.

Having heard reports about the speeches, read the signs, etc. used in this demonstration, I have to tip my hat to the demonstrators. I have seen nothing that they did that is in any way beyond the envelope of reasonable political discourse or action. I would personally be very happy if all the current political discourse from both sides never fell below this level.

I feel quite comfortable saying to those who demonstrated and those who agree with them, "I may not agree with a thing you say, but I will defend to my death your right to say it."

Let us hope that this demonstration in some way helps to elevate the discussion and demonstrations on political issues up from the gun-toting, swistika waving disgraces to a reasonable society that we have seen demonstrated in recent months.

Got to disagree with you. I saw plenty of the same old same old from these protestors. Here's some stuff and searching around will find others including the real classy 'Bury Obamacare with Kennedy' signs.

Remember the bloody handed liberal protester who taunted Condi Rice?

That's just to start. Point is, neither side has a monopoly on class.

But all that aside, here's an interesting little tidbit of news, London's Daily Mail is reporting that there were up to two million protesters on the capitol

....the Daily Mail has a longstanding and well earned reputation for distorting the numbers attending demonstrations in order to back up its ideological inclinations.

Brainwashed by Adam Smith's invisible hand?????!!! Jesus Brain, do all of us on the left a favour and just shut the fuck up. Really we can deal with the right-wing whackos without you jumping in to demand equal time in the loonie bin. Please, please, if you want the healthcare (i.e. insurance reform) bill to pass then start by shuting the hell up....its people like you that led Napoleon to say he'd rather figh against a coalition of allies than with one. You do more to harm your side with your idiocies than Firm, Sanity and luckydawg put together could do if they were on speed.

A woman with red hands yelling at Condi Rice is somehow equivalent to equating Obama with Hitler?

I'm guessing you have never been to London but the Daily Mail isn't exactly a reliable news outlet. The D.C. Fire Department put teh crowd at 60k and the aerial estimate was 50k.

I did encounter the term tea-partiers, but only last year...sorry sanity, but if you want to pull the historical shit you have to do better. I have forgottewn more about the American Revolution than you ever knew to begin with, so stow the bullshit about the "original patriots" , You haven't the slightest idea what they were fighting about and you only make yourself look stupid when you try this sort of shit. read some fucking history before you try to play in my back yard.

But here's a novel idea. Why not address the issue in a personal cmail (since you are addressing me personally) rather than on the boards, ya know, as i have done to you in the past? Or is that behavior too rational and honorable and not befitting your newfound "teabagger" status? Shit, i've been teabagging since high school, and yet with all that ball and dick sucking, i've never been quite consumate enough of a cocksucker to reach the level of some. Quick study, i s'pose.
Because Honey, you posted your opinion on an open board, so it would be cowardly of him to not confront you on that same open board. In the future if you wish to engage him in a private discussion I would advise you to start it in a private message, not on an open forum,

You put it up, we'll all reply...not in private to save your sensibilities, but here in the open...where all can see.
