Thank you Merc. I do love a challenge.

Was there anything in there about the president calling someone a jackass? I really hope the clip they just showed was faked, but somehow I don't think so.

I think you're referring to the MTV awards a couple of nights ago. Kanye West forcibly grabbed the microphone out of the teen aged girl's hands who won. He stormed the stage after Taylor Swift won and tried to grab her award (statue) from her hands and also nearly broke her wrist trying to take the microphone out of her hands while she was attempting to make her acceptance speech.

His claim was that a black woman should have won the award. Talk about racism?

Obama DID call Kanye West a 'jackass', but then again Obama also called a police officer some rather unflattering names after his good friend provoked the police while they were only attempting to carry out their duty.

This is some seriously effed up crap going on with Obama in office. And I'm tired of everyone screaming 'racist' just because someone might oppose Obama. Racism is not the issue. It's that a large percentage of Americans simply object to being led by the nose down the road to socialism.

Maybe I missed it, but your the first one I remember bringing up rasicm. Which post was that?

As all of his appointments who fail the vetting process, Obama threw him under the bus as soon as his stance became public. So either the President didn't feel his knowledge was as unique to him as you think it was, or he just didn't bother paying attention to details. Feel free to pick the one best suiting the rationalization used, and required to appoint him in the first place. ORIGINAL: Mercnbeth

Uh uh, Merc. I'm not going to argue a lose/lose position. We both know that the minute that the whole "truther" thing got out, this guy was gone. Forget the fact that many, on both the left and the right have questions they want answered. Forget that it had nothing to do with the job to which he was appointed. As soon as it hit the news he was gone.

Obama then, was faced with two choices. One, let the guy resign or, as you so charmingly put it "throw him under the bus" or defend him, in which case the cries of "this must be what he believes" would have echoed through the land.

You want to say that Obama should learn to vette his people better? I'm with you. At the very least he should be smart enough to know that his opponents are going to look up every ass they can with a magnifying glass. As I've said before, I have no stake in claiming him to be perfect or even close to it. I'm still content to think of him as better than we had and the best of the alternatives we were given.

I can't refer you to any post but my own. I'm the one who brought up racism when Kanye West stormed the stage during the MTV awards and grabbed the award (statue) from Taylor Swift while at the same time using his other hand to attempt to pry the microphone out of her hands during her acceptance speech.

He DID manage to shout that the white girl shouldn't have won the award, but a black woman should have been given the award. He had some anger problems, clearly. That is racism. But when it's a black person doing the spewing of hatred and clearly violating all normal rules of polite society, it takes a back burner since EVERYONE knows that only black people have to deal with racism.

Are you beginning to see the sarcasm I'm injecting here? And as I said in my previous post, even Obama called Kanye West a 'jackass'.

Jimmy Carter appointed one czar, a drug czar. Ronald Reagan also appointed one. A drug czar. That is a far cry from 34.

Does anybody care to guess how many officials Obama or his White House has actually called czars?

I won't keep anyone in suspense. It's one. The drug czar Gil Kerlikowske whose official title is Director of National Drug Control Policy.

This whole czar thing started with Eric Cantor lying in an op-ed piece in the Washington Post. Then Hannity picked it up without doing even a little fact checking and voila a completely manufactured controversy.

I doubt the truth that you claim. By my count, Obama has appointed 32 CZARS. Dispute it if you want, but I think you're very misinformed.

I find it interesting that you protest the "screaming" of racism while asserting that the only reason Kanye West (who deserves to be called a jackass IMHO) thought that Beyonce should have won was that she was a black woman. His jackassery aside, could it have been that he thought the video was better? Perhaps because Beyonce's video was a lot more sexually laced that Swift's? What makes you think that the fact that a black man preferred a black woman's video to a white woman's is a sign of the racism you so ardently deny?

DomKen -> RE: No Health Care Bill but Anti "LIAR!" Legislation Fast Tracked! (9/15/2009 7:33:08 PM)

Actually I had missed one. He mentions a border czar in an interview with CNN.

Beyond that link to 3 statements by the POTUS or his White House where they use 'czar' to refer to anyone.

Conveniently enough the White House site has a very good search function:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/search/?keywords=czar

Note that all those results either refer to the drug or border czar or are questions by reporters.

FR:

This whole CZAR thing Obama has going reminds me of Soviet Russia. He did not just appoint ONE 'czar'.

As I said in a previous post, by my last count he appointed THIRTY TWO of them. And take it as you will. There's too many leftist, socialists, on these boards for me to waste my time with since Obama himself has played the 'racism' card too many times.

If a man can't stand on his own principles without resorting to playing the race card, he's not worth bothering with. And Obama is notorius for screaming 'racist' whenever more reasonable people oppose him.

I actually wish that I could leave this country so I would no longer have to endure or be associated with such a person as Obama. I COULD move to another country if it were not for the fact that my elderly and disabled mother would not be accepted since most countries have immigration policies that are strictly enforced.

It's only in the U.S that illegal aliens can come and go as they wish and collect welfare and soon to come free medical care.

DomKen -> RE: No Health Care Bill but Anti "LIAR!" Legislation Fast Tracked! (9/15/2009 7:37:20 PM)

This seems like the easiest win ever. Just post 3 links to Obama or someone in his direct employ calling people 'czars' beyond the 2 I've documented.

MarsBonfire -> RE: No Health Care Bill but Anti "LIAR!" Legislation Fast Tracked! (9/15/2009 7:37:22 PM)

Just a little historical note on "czars": Just as with any leadership of a non-democratic type, there were both good and bad czars. Just as there have been good and bad Popes, and good and bad kings throughout history. Strangely (or perhaps not so strangely, when you consider the most people who follow this buffoon so blindly) the folks who listen to Glenn Beck seem to think that calling someone a czar is the equal to calling them a "communist-socialist-Marxist-nazi"... yet, historically, this isn't the case. The Czars were the royal family of Russia who who were thrown out of Russia when the communists created the United Soviet Socialist Republic. (USSR). The Czars had nothing whatsoever to do with communisim. (I guess none of you guys bothered to watch "Dr. Zhivago" or the Disney film, "Anastasia"...) Anyway, many members of the Czarist families who didn't manage to escape with their lives, were later canonnized by the Catholic Church, since they represented innocents lost in the insanity of politically driven cruelty.

BTW, we aren't screaming "Bush did it" on the account of naming Presidential advisors/specialists "czars" in the first place. No, that honor belongs to good ol' Ronnie Reagan. Every President since has appointed a "Czar" for various issues. Again, you haven't bothered to check a few things via that wonderful "Google thingie" that operates through that "series of tubes" known to everyone else as the internet.

Right wingers can now continue with displaying their utter ignorance, history apparently included, already in progress...

Please cite one example, ONE example of Obama shouting "racist" at any time in his presidency in response to any opposition, no matter how angry or ill mannered. It hasn't happened. What you are saying is simply not true.

I also would like to have an answer to my previous question as to why you, who scream so loudly at the idea of being called racist came up with what is clearly a racist allegation in your previous post. I am not, by the way, speaking of Obama. I am speaking of your completely racist comment about (I can't even believe I'm typing this) Kanye West.

As for leaving this country, I have no respect for that at all. Trust me when I say that I was not happy at all during the Bush administration. I felt from the beginning that he would leave this country far worse than he found it. I was not proud of the things that this country, my country did during those eight years. But I did not for a moment desire to leave my country like a rat leaving a sinking ship. I stuck it out every day of it. I spoke out on what I believed. I voted in elections and I knew that one of the beauties of this countries is that we survive it's politicians. In this case, allow me to join wholeheartedly with Heretic (something else I can't quite believe I'm typing) in saying, on behalf of those who actually love their country, "Bye...Don't come back".

Patriots stick it out. False patriots run when things don't go their way.

Relax, one day your legislature will be grown-up enough to allow its members to speak their minds freely.

Right up there near the top of the "you've GOT to be kidding me!" list of important issues being address by Congress is Louise Slaughter generating the "Decorum in the House and in Committees" Bill from her office as Chairwoman of the House Rules Committee Majority Office (Of Course!)

More than likely this will generate another 'Czar' (I think this will make 32?) level appointment from the Administration. An unsubstantiated rumor is that the office will be referenced as the 'Mod 11 Decorum Czar'.

Per the proposed key legislation; no longer can the President be called a liar or hypocrite. It was unclear if the Roger Clemins "Misremembered the facts" is allowed. The President can no longer be charged as "intellectually dishonest" or "giving aid and comfort to the enemy". In a throw-back, and perhaps preemptive act it will no longer be allowed to refer to any alleged "sexual misconduct on the President's part". Which "part" not detailed in the current House version of the Bill.

A heated partisan debate is expected.
It is... the duty of the House to require its Members in speech or debate to preserve that proper restraint which will permit the House to conduct its business in an orderly manner and without unnecessarily and unduly exciting animosity among its Members or antagonism from those other branches of the Government with which the House is correlated.

No more "exciting animosity"!

You can't make this up!

Now I know why scriptwriters and journalist are often quoted as providing key "insight" to what is 'REALLY' happening in Washington. They MUST be handing out old, and never used, 'West Wing' scripts to this Administration. Or would the party embarrass him with this nonsense without his knowledge and blessing?

Or maybe you should read your own links before you post them.

As DC pointed out twice and you did not respond, the quote you've listed is from 1909.

As stated in Cannon’s Precedents, on January 27, 1909, the House adopted a report in response to improper references in debate to the President. That report read in part as follows:
“It is... the duty of the House to require its Members in speech or debate to preserve that proper restraint which will permit the House to conduct its business in an orderly manner and without unnecessarily and unduly exciting animosity among its Members or antagonism from those other branches of the Government with which the House is correlated.”

But let's not let accuracy stand in the way of a good rant.

Cannon's Precedents: Main Page

Clarence Cannon, Clerk at the Speaker's Table of the U.S. House of Representatives, compiled the precedents of the House of Representatives, dating from 1908-1936 (60th-74th Congresses). These documents are the second half of an eleven-volume series containing selected rulings made by the Chair between 1789 and 1936. Volumes 1-5 are entitled Hinds' Precedents and were published in 1907. Cannon's Precedents entail volumes 6-11 and were published in 1936. Documents are available as ASCII text and PDF files.
