Acceptable or offenseive words - 9/19/2009 7:51:22 PM

Not that this is any earth shattering topic, but it came up during a conversation tonight and I thought I would throw it out here.  Blowjob ...why blowjob?   Both of us got on the subject of where the term blowjob came from.   I'm not particularly fond of the term blowjob, simply because I don't see the "blow" part.   Maybe it's just my way of thinking.

It seems to me that mouthfuck works so much better.   Yet people very rarely will use mouthfuck in their conversations whether written or spoken.

Do we use terms/words  that are more easily acceptable so as not to offend anyone?   (Whether or not they accurately depict the action).   Or is that it's just habit because that's what we're accustomed to?      Are there others?

Huh. Good thread starter . . ..

I don't think of 'blow job' as being particularly polite; it's not a phrase I'd use in front of my 91 year old grama, which is my definitive litmus test for these things.

&, to my mind, rendering that particular phrase more descriptively accurate would make it, oh, say, a 'suck job' . . . . . . . lol

I look forward to hearing what others have to say, & perhaps will take a swipe at actually addressing the real questions in your OP . .. .

I always wondered that.. why is it called a 'blowjob' if mostly what goes on is sucking. Not that modern-day language does not offer many such funny quandries.. but offended, no. I use the word all the time. There are other words, some favored, used and actually cherished by other members of this site, that I personally and due to My own preferences find distasteful and would never accept their use in reference to Me. Slut, whore, and bitch are three of them.
1) I am a mostly-monogamous married Woman, and even back in the days when I was a practicing slamhound, I disliked the words slut and whore, of which I am neither. (DISCLAIMER: for those who would have otherwise wished to comment on Level's quote in My sig line: that line is there because it is funny and I like it, that's all.)
2) Call Me a bitch, and I'll show you one..

I think I should start saying fellatio, penis, vagina, vulva, cunnilingus, and anus/buttocks. That should really grate on some people's nerves.

Words don't bother me much (especially sexual terms). However, I just can't seem to use the shortened version of submissive (sub) without giggling like an idiot. It is therefore a bit annoying to me. Last I checked, I wasn't a sandwich, though if someone wishes to come over and eat me, I wouldn't be opposed.....

Haven't you ever wanted to stand out in front of a music shoppe that specializes in piano lessons, sales and service and yell "PIANIST!!!"

Ok, after reading the above I had to google it. When I google something, I type the whole question out, not a few keywords, just as if I were talking to an inteliigent AI. Something that gets interesting results. In this case it at least elicited information rather than a website trying to sell me something.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061013204149AARRNWO

Question: "Why is it called a b-l-o-w-job when there's no blowing involved?"

Best Answer: "The name came from one of 3 possibilites: Victorian slang for a "below-job" (as in below the belt), for the volcanic reaction of the resulting orgasm, or a facetious use of "blow" as the opposite of "suck".

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_Sex#Fe
"The common slang term blow-*** is a misnomer, as blowing is not normally part of fellatio. In fact, blowing air into a partner's penis is an unhealthy practice. It is most commonly thought to be a facetious use of "blow" as the opposite of "suck". It has been suggested to be a corruption of "below-job", allegedly an old Victorian slang term that was commonly used to describe the act. However, there is a third school of thought that believes the word "blow" in "blow-***" indicates the climax of the penis (compare to blowing of a volcano). The phrase "blow-***" originated in the 1940's;[7] at the time, it was also used by Allied pilots as a slang term for jet aircraft.[8]"

Mouth fucking I view as something the sub is passive with. The dom pushes it in and out and she doesn't do anything. Which is different than me performing oral sex on him when I'm in charge of how deep the strokes are and when I get to breathe.

Blow job brings to mind a very old cartoon, something on the order of "Suck, MaryJane, suck. Blow is just a manner of speech". Something to that effect, anyway.

filth has its place and i'm not one for politically correct ways of saying really simple stuff. i'm not squeamish or some uber liberated feminist that gets my boy shorts in a knot when i hear these things. i truthfully don't care how a person chooses to refer to themselves or their anatomy. it isn't mine and i don't have the pleasure of fucking or violating it. in the grand scheme of all the stuff i can think to spend my time fretting about, this one is truly atom sized.

kallisto,

Hooray, a fine subject that has annoyed me for decades. Blow does not enter into it nor when one stops to think on it does suck. It just does not happen unless there is an effort to get the last drop. Wether it is male passive and the fem is just enjoying using the cock with her mouth; or fem passive where the mouth is being used instead of the pussy or ass; it is in fact a mouthfuck but it will never become commonly used as it attacks the senses of acceptability.

I think we should all look at the origin of 'curse words' and then wonder why we still find any utterance offensive.
