ORIGINAL: Mercnbeth Sure, but I'll again ask the fundamental question; why is this a Presidential priority? There is a primary election which should take care of it. If Cuomo is so good and Paterson is so bad; the registered Democratic voters will have the opportunity to let their feelings known in the spring. The only logical answer I can give to that - and it's only a shot in the dark - is that Obama wanted to let Paterson know early on that if he did run, he shouldn't expect any support from the White House. Try to nip him in the bud, to keep Cuomo from having to wage a potentially divisive primary battle that might have left him more vulnerable in the general election. But even that only makes a certain amount of sense, because if that were really Obama's intent, there are a lot of ways that he could have floated it to Paterson that would have been a lot more tactful and productive than the manner that is being so widely reported. So I don't know what to tell you. As best as I can see, it seems to have been clumsily and amateurishly handled by the Obama people. We don't know the whole story, but from what we do know it seems like a head-scratcher.
