Love fish, right? Cats, that is. Everybody knows they're crazy for fish.

But if cats hate water, and do everything they can to avoid going near it - how did they ever find out how much they like fish? Anyone else lie awake nights wondering about this?

Well I have 2 Bengal cats and they both love water. The true Bengal in its natural habitat will live near water, fish and even defaecate downstream.
Many cats wilder ancestors were good at fishing. Perhaps that's why domestic cats still enjoy a bit of tuna!

Cats more or less domesticated themselves long ago. They pretty much moved in, said it looks nice here, and went off in search of snacks.

I heard about a cat in our town that hung out round the back of an old curry house. He got a real liking for chicken vindaloo. I think perhaps his taste buds were damaged over time!

In case anyone has ever wondered, cats do not appreciate having their ears paper clipped together.

*mental note to self: hide paper clips from three yr old*

The myth that cats dislike water is a rather unfortunate generalization.  Most cats do hate water, yes, but, there are still many breeds out there that lean the other way entirely.  And some of the fuzzbutts in our house actually get into the shower or pool or bathtub with us if the mood strikes them, which is fairly common.  It's strange to be standing in the shower and hear a "mreowl" behind me, look back and there she is just staring up at me.  Even more fun to be in the pool and one is sitting next to it, then all of a sudden launches itself into the water and starts swimming right over to me.

If anything, I've found that cats tend to do what they damn well please, including playing fetch with a shoestring or glow stick... er, rephrase.  The cat has taught me how to throw the shoestring or glow stick for her to chase and kill.  Those horrible shoestring snakes.  They're apparently one of the most evil and deadly things in the world and must be destroyed.

I've also noticed that cats normally have an inverse reaction of pleasure to how much something costs.  $90 cat condo?  Meh, whatever.  Ball of foil, 2L bottle cap, old shoestring, the plastic ring thing from the milk jug?  GIFTS FROM GOD!  That $5000 vase?  Boring...  UNTIL it's broken into a bunch of worthless chunks.  Then it's amazing!  Chase the $30 mechanical mouse?  Why?  Sit there and swat at the people on tv playing football though?  HELL YEAH!  Brats...

HAHAHAHA!

I had a roommate in college that had a habit of doing pushups naked.  Don't ask me why, I've yet to figure it out.  But whatever.  Well, I found a stray kitten one night while out and about and brought it back to the dorm so I could do something with it the next day.  He wasn't in and I fell asleep before he got back.  Well, a while later, he was doing his nightly exercises, and I suddenly woke up to a loud yell.  I never knew he could jump that high, that fast, as the kitten came bolting out from under the bed to attack the fun looking dangly toy.   I swear I couldn't stop laughing for about 2 hours.  I sometimes wonder though, if he now has a life long phobia of cats.

OMG  That's even worse then when I had to ask Mr. Hawt if he could please put away Pepper as she was a bit too nosey for my comfort to look what he was doing when we met last time...

However, my cats are not that keen on water...my boys definitely not!

Now, my girls are a bit different, though not much. Pepper has the habbit at times to put her paw into the water bowl a few times in a row and then lick it from the paw and then put it right back into the bowl....apart from that she isn't keen on water.

Summer I washed once as she reacted badly to flea spray...well, might have been a bit my fault ,don't have a 3yo yet whom I can put all the blame on  - however, when I got her, unfortunately she was straight away very welcomed by my current flea problem my furrys have at the moment and so I used on her the flea spray as well...and soon later she started to foam out of her mouth

So I read the instructions a bit more closely...yes, she was older then 12 weeks old as she was almost 14 weeks old when I picked her up, however her weight was below the recommended 1.5kg (though, only short of 200g)...however, as it got pretty scary, particular as it was friday night, so no vet really around for the next few days I followed the advice which was written on the package and gave her a soapy bath (this cat must really have hated me for such a start in my household...foaming on the first day after long travel and then on top of it getting bathed) which thankfully made her foamy reaction disappear very fast...and she did not react negatively at all to having a bath...I mean...she did not say "oh yeah great, lets give me a bath"  but my othe cats would certainly have rebellt where she did not...but maybe she was just shy or unwell from that flea spray that she tolerated it...well, will test it in the next days

So by now I swear even more to frontline as before as that experience with her was just a nightmare with that over the counter flea spray

Oh, a bit of advice when having to bathe cats, use Dawn.  Yes, the dish soap.   Just dawn classic, or even just a smaller amount of the concentrated dawn.  It's completely non-toxic, and works wonders.  It's what they use to clean up animals in a lot of the oil spills (exxon-valdez for example).  Worst it'll do is give them a little bit of nasty taste in the mouth if they ingest it, and possibly a tiny bit of gas.  Seems to be a standard in all of the veterinarian offices I've been to also.  It's inexpensive, safe and works.  And your cat will be so clean you can eat off of it!  Although I doubt the cat would like that idea much.

Well, eating off my cat is even less possible as Birmans have semi long hair, much finer then my other furrys have but thanks for that tip  I used last time a very tiny dose of hand soap...and thankfully she survived  But I can tell you that situation did freak me out big time

Yep, that just shows how smart he already is  (not that it would be surprising with such parents, though)
