Sounds like another bloody storm in a tea cup to me. These days anyone who takes everything they see or are told in an internet site to be gospel is a few cents short of a dollar or very new to the internet. I see the post as just one short step away from a witch hunt to try to remove these good folk from sites like this.

Oh hon, the discussion part is for you and other CMers to mull over.  I have been a researcher for years and years, and once I make a presentation, it is up to others to debate and discuss my writings.  I stand on my post TOTALLY, so, I have nothing to refute, or back off from.  It is as it is, and I am quite happy with what I wrote!

Ok, you have no need to refute or rebut anyone's statement...

but what about inter-sexed people? were do they fall into your categories?

in a perfect world we would hope people would be honest in their representation of themselves. but the same deception can occur in person and does. there's been too many movies of the week about such. while i don't condone anyone tinkering with genders, ages, and everything in between because lying totally pisses me off. i accept that given the medium and the anonymity factor it is always buyer beware. do your homework and qualify him before signing the credit slip. if the idea of such is just too darned cumbersome, the old fashioned way of connecting might be more suitable.

My oh my IronBear, "witch hunt"?  Funny how this very ugly and strong term was used as the subject of your post.  You surely woudn't be having fun with a mature lady, would you?  Last time I heard that term tossed about in a discussion was when Sarah Palin was running for national office here in the US!  "Shooting the messenger" seems so out of character for an Aussie...

Hey Lockit, aren't you the one they were discussing when the subject was "thread highjacking"?  Oh yeah, I think you were!

But... but... but... you liked my picture!

Look lady... this comical act of a thread cannot be jacked any higher than you are taking it.

You know what. I find it really distasteful when a woman who;'s over 30 engages in catty teenager like behavior and backhanded compliments.

So much for having an interesting discussion.

Lots of people misrepresent themselves here. I dont understand why its such a big deal to you? Seems lke you think your definitions is the only one that matters and you are the treminology police.

Your "assumption" is not correct.  Definitions that "actually and factually' describe something better to the majority of the population, than those that have not yet been debated, are far easier to understand for most people.  I just like to get the FACTS out

I need to brush up my English, is fact the new word for dick? Or do I totally misread the long message from the OP and the rest of this thread?

BTW, it's risky when researchers state that they will not look critically at their own work and leave that to others.

I appreciate both your frustration and your effort to sort it out.

There is a difference between crossdressing as a fetish and being a transgendered individual.
You do differentiate that at the end of your post but at the top and middle you lump them together.

You also (as of yet) have not addressed the issue of the intersexed.
I also have a query re: your claim that the accurate terms are: "mono-sexual with"... .

I have not seen that as an offered option for sexual orientation...not just here, but anywhere.
This is not meant as an attack of your ideas or your position that you clearly feel so strongly about, but do you think it fair to ask people to identify as you wish them to?

I am not convinced that the basis of sexual identity can/should be soley determined by the classification of genetically female/genetically male.
If someone has always felt they are different gender from what they were born as, I do not necessarily think that their brain has it wrong.

I see no trickery in that, no deception, provided you are given all of the relevant information.
In the example you give, they do:
"The person in question is a long-time cross-dresser for many, many years, who now, at the age of 50, states in their profile, "I am a m2f transsexual WOMAN".  They show their sex on their profile as "female", and their sexual orientation as "lesbian".  This person continues on in their profile to state, "I am, and have always been, attracted to WOMEN"."

This OP was not discussing intersexed people, but you post a lot, why don't you start one?  I would love to read your discourse on such an interesting topic

I also believe definitions change, as people change their definitions. years ago transsexual was not even in the dictionary. Words evolve with use. So a blanket statement of something being factual and a dictionary blurb does nothing to convey the usagage in society.

If you don't like the genetic terms of "female" and "male", then all you have to do is to find a scientifically recognized board that will endorse a new gender for you; then you can find a board of English professors to include your new term in that brand new dictionary you are working on
