GOP, get out of the way of progress
Sept. 24: Msnbc’s Ed Schultz and panel discusses the Republican Party’s continuing obstruction of the health care reform bill.

WE HAVE THE VOTES PEOPLE! As per Sherrod Brown, senator Ohio

Brain, with all due respect, WTF is your aim with titles that insult a significant portion of the American public?  You are just begging for your thread to dissolve into namecalling and nastiness.

My goal here is to get divergent points of view and try to liosten and learn - what's yours?

President Bush had the votes as well, and he used them to ram through legislation over the wishes of the opposition party and the American people.  As a consequence, his party suffered a major setback in November.  Simply "having the votes" makes it very tempting to win the battles and lose the war.

The republican party is unable to obstruct anything right now. The ball is in the democrats court.

That's kind of a half-truth there, SFY. The republican party cannot pass anything right now. Obstruction is a very different matter.

servantforuse -> RE: Republicans are corporate whores & live for lobbyists (9/25/2009 8:08:02 AM)

I don't see it as obstruction. I see it as a debate over a trillion dollar bill that we have no way to pay for.

DomImus -> RE: Republicans are corporate whores & live for lobbyists (9/25/2009 8:09:43 AM)

There are enough democrats that are more concerned about re-election next year than about health care reform. That is what is obstructing the passage of a health care reform bill.

mnottertail -> RE: Republicans are corporate whores & live for lobbyists (9/25/2009 8:13:51 AM)

well, what does not having a way to pay for it all of a sudden have to do with anything? Taxes should have been raised, not lowered, spending should have been trimmed, not exploded, reform should have been accomplished not obstruted, protections should have been passed, not dismantled, calculation and reason should have been the standard, not bellicosity and invasion, nobody considered how to pay for that.

Ron

servantforuse -> RE: Republicans are corporate whores & live for lobbyists (9/25/2009 8:19:56 AM)

The democrats could, if they wanted to, do all of the things you just mentioned. I think they are obstructing the process.

mnottertail -> RE: Republicans are corporate whores & live for lobbyists (9/25/2009 8:36:53 AM)

Imus and serv---

obstruction only by the fact that there are liberal as well as conservative democrats, the republican party has been set up as of late (say since the reagan days) to gravitate towards conservative only republicans.

there is a fight (as there always was) between liberal and conservative. the republicans are just unable to field any dogs in that fight.

Ron

I'm not sure what everyone is commenting on, unless they were able to get your link to work, because I wasn't.

Brain, please engage your namesake. Steven has it spot on, in that any point you are trying to make is lost in the thread title. All it does is put peoples backs up and stiffle debate.

I watched it. You didn't miss much.

I guess I'm just sick and tired of right wing bullshit. Obama has tried very hard to be bipartisan but the Republicans have behaved like assholes. Obama has been Christ like to say the least. Nothing but krud is coming out of Republican mouths these days, that and lies.

There is nothing to learn from the Republicans. They' re not interested in being objective or fair or honest about this issue, or any other issue for that matter. I'm sick and tired of wasting my time with their crap. It's time for Democrats to unite and pass a health care bill.

As far as the American people are concerned, they have spoken: 52% of Americans support and trust the president on the healthcare issue and 27% of Americans support and trust the Republicans.

My goal is to know the truth and to tell it. The truth is to tell people that the Republican Party is nothing but a party of corporate whores. I think if the Democrats pass a good health care bill with a single payer option it will reduce the deficit with the Democrats winning the war as you call it in being re-elected with stronger majorities. Otherwise I expect to see the Green party doing better with Ralph Nader. So Obama and the Democrats had better find the balls to deliver on their promises and damn the Republicans, the corporate whores that they are.
