This is actually another Republican lie. The single-payer option will actually reduce the deficit and pay for itself. It will also reduce executive compensation so we will not have scumbags making $24 million dollar salaries while innocent Americans suffer having their health care rescinded. quote: ORIGINAL: mnottertail well, what does not having a way to pay for it all of a sudden have to do with anything? In actuality though, in my experience the corruption levels in both parties are overflowing tremendously, and at equal levels. (But neither at 100%....there are some truly awesome and ethical people on both sides).

In the Senate version of Obamacare if you refuse to pay the health insurance corporations for the privelige of having their product cover you you do not pass go, and you do not collect $200, you go directly to jail. If the democrats try to ram this bill down our throats using the reconciliation tactic, they will have more problems than they can count. It will not go over well with voters to put it mildly. They will threaten to do that, but will not go that route.

Depends how important they think it is, both finacially, politically, and ethically. If the Dems are going to get anything done, they may have to resort to Recon. There may be a cost in elections later, but that's only if the programs they are proposing fail... (or are too slow in ramping up to show up in a voter's budget by election time) if they succeed, they will become a majority for a very, very long time.

US Democrats and their "frontman" Obama are masters of deception. Democrats today raise more money from corporate donors than GOP candidates. Obama election campaign got about twice corporate donations McCain did. Obama economic policies can be described as fascist (state interests and big business interests fuse together). Health care proposals fall into the same category: big medical business interests can not be harmed. What have Democrats actually delivered last 25 years to their major voting blocks? The answer is: practically nothing. The democrats have been among top organizers of all major bubble scams. The above is not to say Republicans are better. US needs government reform more than health care reform. It should be realized that US follows communist Russia footsteps (corruption, debt trap, inability to reform the system). Russians say: fish starts rotting from the head.

I did not say US government is fascist. I said the economic policies lean towards fascism. Here is Wikipedia definition: Secondly, fascism has strong corporatist elements, where the government has significant control over private enterprise, but does not entirely co-opt it (as in, say, communism). The NAZIs, for example, considered themselves a "Third Way" between laissez-faire capitalism and socialism, in that rather than completely nationalizing industry and taking over the means of production, the government had a very powerful influence. Can you recognize the point? If we start certain fearing words things are even worse. We can pretend things are OK only wery limiting time (if they are obviously not.OK).

Mars, I think we will see very soon that ethics and finances don't matter much to the democrats in power right now. Politics do matter though. That is the one reason the ' public ' option will never pass. They want to get re elected in 2010.
