Status: offline 		I just started shaving everything a couple months ago. I like the way it looks and feels, but for some reason I can't get as close of a shave as I would like. No complaints from my Dom, but I want to be perfectly smooth and soft for him, and I'm not. I am also getting the occasional ingrown hair.

Any advice? I have tried waxing on my legs and got tons of ingrown hairs, so I wouldn't trust it in more delicate spots. Nair and other hair removal creams have warnings on the labels to not use them on genitals, but has anyone tried it?

Is it normal to not be perfectly smooth and soft? Maybe I have unrealistic expectations.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Status: offline 		"Down there" won't stay 100% smooth & soft very long, as hair does tend to grow.  But waxing can last a lot longer.  It hurts like an S.O.B. when it's getting done, but it's perfectly smooth for a lot longer.

Status: offline 		Whatever you do... do not put Nair down there! I tried that and believe me when I say it hurts.

Waxing is your best bet. It may not feel all that great but it works wonders... shaving may be smooth for a day but it needs to be done daily and irritation is common when you do that.

Status: offline 		I am a big fan of shaving.  Any hair I want gone gets shaved (With the occasional trim of the split ends of the hair on my head via scissors).  The negative effects (Irritation, ingrown hairs, cuts, etc.) tend to lessen across time as your body and you acclimate to the process.  For added softness, perhaps moisturizing lotion after-the-fact.

Trimming is my friend, unless its my underarms, they get shaved daily. My Legs? I have extremely baby fine blonde hair on my legs. *shrug* I shave it or nair it when I notice it.

Status: offline 		What about electrolysis? I imagine it would hurt in any sensitive spots but supposedly would keep it smooth and hair free.

The pain is the best bit!!
I tried getting a waxing for the first time last year and the finish lasted a few weeks, shaving only lasts a day and is deffinately not good enough (I still feel a little rough)

As far as the fear of ingrowing hairs... the best answer is to pay someone to do it. A proffessional will get a better finish and somehow they seem to avoid the ingrowing hair problem.
Also the more often you wax the more you body gets used to it and soon you wont need to wax for another 3 weeks, 4 weeks ect.

Status: offline 		to get a nice smooth shave, I use a razor blade with at least 2 blades, then I use shampoo or body wash instead of shaving cream, it works better for me.

Status: offline 		My Lady quite enjoys doing the waxing herself. She wants pretty much everything hairless below the waist. She does have a good time watching me trying to hold still when she's doing the tenderest bits.

I do not get ingrown hairs, because I use a scrubby wash cloth thing every day in teh shower to polish away any dead skin. If the follicles are not obstructed, the new hair grows out very soft and fine at first.

My recommendation is to get one of the water-soluble no-heat waxes (Nads, for example). That way cleanup afterwards is a matter of simply showering. Then moisturize!

I have been shaving completely for 16 years. I have never had any irritation. Try using baby oil, just don't fall in the tub from it.

Status: offline 		Hi SubmissiveSu...I have used Nair several times down there and have had no problems whatsoever. If you leave it on too long it gets a little tender but otherwise its great. Totally smooth for a few days at least.

Every morning there's more hair in the drain than when I started.

Yes indeed the "active soy" in Aveeno positively smooth Shaving Cream actually make the hair grow back slower. Its a plant estrogen. The shave cream doesn't work as well at slowing hair growth as Aveeno's Positively Smooth Lotion with active soy (probably because you rinse the shave cream off) But I can't find the lotion anywhere anymore! I guess I have to look online. The combo of Aveeno shave cream followed by the lotion always worked for me. I love the way waxing feels, and lasts, but the fact that you have to let the hair grow to a certain length before waxing again is not acceptable.

Status: offline 		I am naurotic about shaving every time I am in the bath or shower.  I will not stop until I am completely smooth...everywhere.  I have actually made myself bleed trying to get a tiny patch of stubble, lol.  It did take a good 3 or 4 months before I stopped showing signs of irritation from shaving.  I think the skin is so sensitive that it just needs time to adapt.  If you look at your local pharmacy you should be able to find after shave lotions that help with irritation and ingrown hairs.  They also contain lidocaine ( I think that is what it is ) to help with any pain.  Bikini Zone is one of the products I have used; but there are others that worked just as well.  I have also sprayed Dermoplast there.  I got the idea from after childbirth.  It was given to me in the hospital for that area even though the warning label suggests not to use it there.  I use men's razors to shave.  They seem to get a closer shave - no less than a double head razor.  If you wax yourself remember to pull the opposite direction of the hair growth and against your skin.  Do not pull up and out or you will have more irritation.

Status: offline 		I really appreciate all the advice. I like the idea of waxing but not the part about having to let it regrow a bit before waxing again. I think I'll try baby oil, a man's razor, and the soy Aveeno lotion afterward (if I can find it). Thanks, everyone!

With you as the famous exception who confirms the rule, I am sure that most women have no clue how to correctly shave (a lot of men neither, but that is another story).

IMnHO, key to good shaving is heat, for at least five minutes, if possible ten or more, in the form of a hot shower or hot towels, the hotter, the better.

The lathe is of course very important and I recommend these blaireau <trad> with real soap. It has also lots of positive side-effects. Women I shaved never complained that I was creating to much lath on their clithood, which is strategically well placed to.... , well it is well placed.

I also believe in also often changing the blades.

I have a moustache like Don Diego de la Vega (I loved the Zorro series when I was a young boy) and look exactly like him except for the eyes, the mouth and the rest of the face, but it is clear for even the most unobservative observer that we are both mustached mammals.

Shaving around a moustache requires a lot of time and I think that this is what most people do not want to invest into shaving. A pity when one consider that the time not spent shaving (or cuddling or fondling or carressing) is spent in front of the television

Take me as an example, I just went for a quick shave, more to make sure that I would not forget anything for this post. The results of haste lack of focus is that my face looks slightly less bloody than the Gettysburgh battle...

Status: offline 		Toweling off instead of rinsing off when shaving for me has helped from drying out my skin afterward.

I've heard using baby oil gets a better cleaner shave. Tried it myself and it worked real nice. I just ended up going through razors by the dozen.
