What precisely is so good about it?

According to your own source, we have judicial misconduct (in my opinion) after he served the agreed prison time, and a victim who opposes further pursuit of the matter.

He jumped bail and fled the country. He always wanted to return to the States. Now he can. He can hang his new award in his prison cell.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: Polanski Arrested. (9/27/2009 7:46:08 AM)

Gotta agree with Kirata here.  No good will be served by bringing an old man back here on such charges.  He's already been in exile for 30+ years.  If it was a murder case, then I could see it, but it's time to let this sleeping dog lie.   The child in the case is now middle-aged & deserves to go on with her life.  Why muck it all up again??

Maybe if it were your 13 year old daughter, you might feel differently.

She's not 13 anymore, and if it were my daughter I would respect her wishes.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: Polanski Arrested. (9/27/2009 7:52:42 AM)

I don't think so.  My daughter actually went through something similar.  Had you seen my beautiful teenaged girl curled into a fetal position cuddling a stuffed animal on the morning of her abuser's court date, you might understand.  No way would she want that case brought up again.  She did what she had to do to stop him then & has moved on with her life & is now a beautiful strong woman.  I wouldn't take that away from her for some sort of delayed revenge.   I allowed her to make the decision about what to do to him.  I couldn't see putting her through more trauma.

The only acceptable penalty for the molestation of a UM is death. There is no acceptable statute of limitations.

servantforuse -> RE: Polanski Arrested. (9/27/2009 8:12:08 AM)

I agree with you spinner. Hurting a little UM is worse than murder in my book.

DomImus -> RE: Polanski Arrested. (9/27/2009 8:18:20 AM)

Plea bargain or not, he fled the situation illegally. Lock him up.

Lostkitten3 -> RE: Polanski Arrested. (9/27/2009 8:21:16 AM)

child molesters should burn in hell. We the abused may seem like strong women, but we are still damaged, and always have to overcome that fear of untrustworthy humans, and have to work harder to listen to our gut when it says "run away, this is a bad situation" because we don't usually listen anymore. That voice was quieted when we were abused, and I not so badly as others.
If it were my daughter, who is 12, I would want the man to have the shit beaten out of him in front of her. And I would do everything I could to help her get revenge. Especially holding her upright to appear in court and accessing her anger instead of her pain and fear.
Outrage and fury are the only things that will stop these horrors of real life.
Roman Pollanski should face his accuser, and take his punishment.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: Polanski Arrested. (9/27/2009 8:26:24 AM)

He has faced his victim.  I am in no way belittling what happened to my daughter.  I did help her to stand up & face him & do what had to be done to stop him.  But there would be no good served to reopen those wounds at this late date.  This would simply be adding to her trauma & bringing up the pain & fear again, not a strengthening act, IMO.

Also, I believe that they do burn in hell.  They are the truly evil of this earth.  But my thoughts have to be with my daughter & what would serve her best.

Yes. He may have the prettiest cell.

It's about time, though a little late, it got done.

Lostkitten3 -> RE: Polanski Arrested. (9/27/2009 8:31:02 AM)

Personally I am much stronger now and would love to face my accuser, but I did a LOT of work on getting to her, stopping being a victim in life, making better decisions for myself, and finding my "no." If it doesn't work for your daughter, that is cool, but I have to reccomend a book, called The Courage To Heal, when she is ready to deal with it. Some adults never do.

But she's not accusing him. They reached a satisfactory settlement, she considers the matter over and done with, and she opposes his extradition. It strikes me as a highly suspect concern for the victim that refuses to pay the slightest freaking attention to her feelings or what she wants.

I too agree that he shouldn't be allowed off the hook....but then again I have a teenaged daughter.

Don't assume it is over yet, Serv.  The U.S. still has to pursue the extradition.  That moves this up the political ladder.  Hollywood loves Polanski.

Hmmmm...where did I say that my daughter is not healed?  She is completely healed, as far as she knows.  What I did say was that she faced her accuser, did what she had to do to stop him from harming others & moved on.  I also said that there would be no good served to make her face him once again now as a middle-aged woman.

Maybe, just maybe, if we stopped making settlements, deals, excuses and justifications for this, those who do such things will get the idea that they will be caught, will be punished, and will be removed from this earth. Then maybe, just maybe, one lest UM will be victimized by this sort of scum.

I'm in favor of  giving it a try.
