I will rule...

Obama better check to see his own house is in order.

I don't think Vidal has any great insight into anything btw... But he is a Lion of the American Left and his statements carry weight within that movement to many many people.

I did not vouched for the credibility of Vidal either, I just stated that the man was not an idiot.

Do you think Gore Vidal is an idiot? Do you dissagree with the following?

” The “War on Terror” was “made up”, Vidal says. “The whole thing was PR, just like ‘weapons of mass destruction’.

"......Obama believes the Republican Party is a party when in fact it’s a mindset, like Hitler Youth, based on hatred — religious hatred, racial hatred. When you foreigners hear the word ‘conservative’ you think of kindly old men hunting foxes. They’re not, they’re fascists.”

“Remember the coup d’etat of 2000 when the Supreme Court fixed the selection, not election, of the stupidest man in the country, Mr Bush.”

"Obama would have been better off focusing on educating the American people. His problem is being over-educated. He doesn’t realise how dim-witted and ignorant his audience is."

I agree with the first, disagree with the second, am not entirely sure of the third and agree wholeheartedly with the fourth.

How's that for a clear position?

I thought that was just demonstrated. [:D]

But hey, seriously, gimmie a break, this was in fun. If you have a statement you want to make, make it. Otherwise, go fish somewhere else.

"He doesn’t realise how dim-witted and ignorant his audience is"

This is often hurled at Americans by the world's so called elites...

Dim-witted and ignorant of what???

Love of family? Love of worship as they see fit? Love of personal Liberty? Love of earning their way to prosperity? Can they not read, can the not write? Or does the fact that their views are different from his and yours Spinner, that makes them dim-witted and ignorant?

Possibly a topic for another thread?

HatesParisHilton -> RE: So I'm guessing Gore Vidal is now a racist too? (9/30/2009 9:02:31 PM)

Vidal grew in a time BEFORE Stonewall in NY and the advent of Milk's success in SF.

That's like pre Martin Luther and post Martin Luther, ala Guess Who's Coming To Dinner (seen that one, Fat Dom Daddomatic?  I'm not mocking you; I mean the scene between Poitier and his Dad is a scene that uses subtext to explain a lot formore than just one intergenerational minority struggle).

Gore is a flaming queen, he makes Paul Lynd on Bewitched look like Charles Bronson.  But he's also a FUCKING FOSSIL, and makes Ian McKellan look like Carson Daly.

These things sway political statements because unless you are born into some Frat Boy piece of shit neanderthal Frequent Flyer Club, you will always see things from an angle askiew by the viewpoint of any crew-cut varsity jacket wearing Great Santini wannabe who gets rewarded by the culture all around him every day.

Then interpret for me, because I obviously don't speak conservative.

Sure, glad to. It's kinda tricky, but follow me closely here...

When you read a post by a conservative, you have to realize (pay attention now, here it comes) that he means simply what he says, no more and no less. Not what he doesn't say, not what other people say he said, not words he didn't use, just what he said.

It does kinda take a knack, but you'll be able to get it with practice.

K.

Gosh Kirata, I guess I'll have to study harder.

See, usually I associate a person's remarks within the context they are given.

I keep forgetting conservatives like to pull things out of context and offer them as absolute proof............or an absolute defense of their own remarks.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: So I'm guessing Gore Vidal is now a racist too? (9/30/2009 9:16:19 PM)

Where did I pull anything out of context?

HatesParisHilton -> RE: So I'm guessing Gore Vidal is now a racist too? (9/30/2009 9:30:14 PM)

oh, Gore must now be a mod.

since this "political" thread has no been moved here, where satire comes to die.

how apt.

whichever mod did that?

YOU are fucking WEST WING funny. and that is HIGH praise.

Possibly a question why you posted an article and cherry-picked what you agreed with while ignoring the rest.

Sorry, I won't play this game.

I asked you, based on your endorsements of his remarks, whether you agreed with the quotes above.

You never answered, instead trying to turn the question back on me.

I shall remember this in 2012 when Sarah is running for President.

Ah, I'm glad you brought that up. You see, Sarah Palin actually fulfills our gender role expectations, rather then flouting them. She uses sex appeal and good ol' "woman's intuition", instead of being dominant and smart (read: "shrill" and "controlling") the way Hillary is. Hillary's problem is that she doesn't want to be the first woman president; she just wants to be president, and happens to also be a woman. She has discarded a good deal of her femininity in order to make it in a "man's world" without compromising, and as a result, she's treated the way she is.

Gender roles in our society still require that a woman act and be treated as inherently inferior to a man. As such, a woman typically has two choices: She can accept her femininity, and therefore her inferiority, or she can reject her inferiority, and suffer the judgement of her "failure" as a woman.

Yes, there are exceptions, and they're becoming more and more common, but it still takes a hell of a lot of courage, dedication, and self-determination for a woman to overcome society's prejudice, and even when she does you get all the bullshit we heap on Hillary Clinton for being a "hyena".

Et c'est seulement des idiots prétentieux qui se servent d'autres langages pour essayer et masquer leurs insultes plutôt que de les parler où elles peuvent être comprises.

I have a better deal for you, if you don't want people using the online translators, post in english. I'd wager that many who post here don't speak french. To know that and still post veiled insults in french is a very pretentious, yet callow move.

Liberal Lion Gore Vidal...

If I ever got within range of Gore Vidal, I would kiss his ring, or genuflect, or something, because that guy has always thought so outside of the box, he's like a scalpel in a world full of spoons.
