ORIGINAL: peppermint I'm sorry. I do not see the problem. I go to all the Collarme pages. I never look at the ads. As far as I am concerned, there are no ads. So, learn to control your eyes and look at only those parts of the page that you went to that page to see. It really is easy. Or...find a computer geek. A good one can remove all advertising from all your web pages. You will never have to look at any ads again. The biggest advantage is that your pages will load so much faster. Some computer geeks call that "the cerebral filter". If you happen to have a well-developed one, great. For some persons, animated ads, regardless of content, are a major distraction. They are meant to be, obviously. The ad-makers are trying to make us look at them. Even if you are great at ignoring ads, they are still going to clutter up web pages, and make them load a lot more slowly. Flash ads can also be vehicles for malware. Just out of curiosity, I tried viewing CM with ad-blocking turned off. It was pretty amazing to me. If I were an Internet newbie and didn't know about adblocking, I don't think I'd even bother with sites like this. You don't really need to find a computer geek. Both Firefox and Opera have plenty of adblocking features built in. My standard browser is Firefox with the Adblock and Flashblock extensions. Those are highly configurable, so you can see what you want, block what you don't want. For those who think they have some sort of moral obligation to look at the ads on free web sites, site owners are generally paid by the click, not the view. A one per cent clickthrough rate is about average. In other words, they don't get paid till the viewer clicks on the ad, and they know that 99% of their visitors won't. Those who are a little more Windows savvy can block ads (or whatever else they choose) even more effectively with a well-designed hosts file. (Lots of sites offer ready-made lists. You don't have to do all the work yourself.) I'd also recommend the OpenDNS service to everyone. It opens speeds up web page loading, and it also offers an extra level of security. The Internet was designed to empower the user to control her own interface, her own online experience. It's really really easy, once you get used to it. It baffles me that lots of people never even bother.
