they could just ask for a gift and disappear without any face to put to a picture. Most try to take the conversation off the site.

Someone who was planning to disappear could just put up any photo, and change it as needed. An out and out scammer probably would pick some attractive photo from the Web and use it, since profiles with photos get more attention. If they aren't planning to meet potential respondents, real appearance is not an issue. On the other hand, those who do think they might actually be meeting someone have fewer choices, if they don't wish to be seen. They can use no photo, or a blurry one, or a nonrevealing one.

I haven't looked this up, but I'm betting the history of if has something to do with the fact that many men who hire sex workers of any sort are married/paranoid/both and don't want to give their real names. I can verify this - most of my (ahem) clients are named either John or Bob.

John is also just the name used when one doesn't know the name of the man/men in question. Like John doe

You don't have any control over what people might be doing with pics of your butt either, Ms S. It could be blown up to huge proportions, printed and pasted on someone's bedroom ceiling, for all you know. Just a thought.
