Major league baseball put a zipper on Marge Schott's mouth a few years ago because she was an embarassment, being in an even more politically correct enviroment  nowadays rush (no respect, no caps) doesn't stand a chance with a league that fines players for having droopy socks so pretty much the whole thread is moot. (notsmart....erm, um, notsweet was funny though)

with all the $$ that the Reverend Shawwwwwwpton could drum up, why doesn't he buy  a big enough stake of the team himself on behalf of everyone that hates Rush, and thus stop Rush from owning any part in the team?

Kanye West and Beyonce could probably get FIVE guys together each and pull that off in 48 hours or less.

if anyone suggested this before, apologies.

Frankly, if they're that desperate to throw their money away (seriously, it's the Rams, how could that possibly be a good business move?) just toss it my way.  I'm pretty sure I can waste it in far more varied and interesting ways.

(this will be a very queenie moment):

as a comics artist, I always REALLY liked the uniforms and helmet design of the Rams...

so sad that they rarely played as cool as they looked.

I do a bit of the drawin' o' th' funnies myself.  Sooo, I'll grant you that.  And the Chargers too.

I'm loving all the throwback uniforms this year.  Was great to see the old (1963) patriots helmet again on sunday.  Now that was awesome.

But again, uniforms aside... they're still the Rams.  I even kind of like them.  But even if I had the money, there's no way I'd ever buy the team.  I'm insane, not stupid.

To an extent I agree, but since the NFL has an almost monopoly on the market, it is almost like a violation of anti-trust laws. Very similar to the problems I have with the diamond markets and the price fixing there. While many agree in this occasion that it is okay to refuse the sale, what happens the next time, and it is for something we disagree with? Yes I know they are considered franchises, but it is franchises to a closed market. That is where I have the problem, there is no going independent if the organization does not let you in.

I agree that he has the right to own any business he wants to own. But if the other owners, or the league itself, decide not to approve his proposal, then they have the right to tell him no. Their right of approval takes precedence over his right to purchase a team.

There is no other way to run a sports leage. The individual teams are worthless without the central organization. It isn't like a McDonalds where the hamburgers they sell has nothing to do with the hamburgers another McDonalds sells. In this case, the league as a whole is more important than any single team. To change that would destroy the league, just as it would any major league sports team.

Are they the bunch where some of the fans wear watermelons on their heads, or is that somebody else?

Maybe you remember the USFL? There's no law against going independent. There's also no guarantee that you'll be successful at it and there shouldn't be.

Thanks to all my well wishers, it's been a great day.

On the subject of the thread, I don't really care if Rush gets it or not, but I am kinda of curious as to why Al is getting involved. Does he have a stake in the NFL?

Sharpton feels he has a stake any place racism might be a fight. Beyond that, he is no different than you or i contacting the NFL to voice a concern. Why this has become such a huge deal, Sharpton contacting them, i have no clue. He has no clout, other than his mouth.

well, this is bigger than fox news, this is getting more action than Limbaugh and Beck combined, the liberals are running scared thru the halls of congress bleating in fear at the voting slaughter that looms so cataclysmically before them. And yet, they can not produce even one birth certificate for any democrat that can be confirmed by the rabid right, and all they can do is wring their hands and wonder: Why, god? Oh, why is this happening?

I’m not sure how much power the NFL has over buyers. The NFL does not own the Rams...it is family owned.

They may, behind the scenes, discourage the owners from accepting money from Limbaugh. But when push comes to shove and Limbaugh is of a mind he could sue the NFL if they nixed the deal because they don’t like him. I believe they understand this and will only go so far to stop his involvement in the purchase.

I think what will stop him, if anything, is the general uproar will encourage the majority interests to look for less controversial money.

This idea keeps popping up in this thread and what everyone is overlooking is that there is a reason it is called an NFL franchise.

And like any other franchise, the owner operates under the conditions set forth by the franchiser, in this case the NFL.

No different than Subway or McDonalds.

The franchise operates under the corporate structure and the corporation decides who can or cannot purchase one.

Yes but show me the bylaws that state they have the power to nix a proposed buyer because they don't like them. I understand what you are telling me but I want you to understand that they will fear legal action by Limbaugh and will not stop his participation.

Sure they will give lip service and encourage Frontiere’s kids to look elsewhere but the bottom line is if the purchasing team wants to keep Limbaugh and the Kids want the money I don’t think the NFL can or will stop the deal.

Something you are overlooking as well…I’ll bet most owners, who will have the ultimate say in his participation, are mostly Republicans with a pro Limbaugh leaning.
