Maybe it is the way He or She just looks at You?
Or the way they move there hands?
The way They hold a favorite toy?

As the other person said the desire to please but I think your meaning something like

What punishment are you afraid off that keeps you inline?

Personnally its the way she spoke. The tone off her voice when she was angry or wanted me to do something. It cut straight to the bone and I had to obey, it was worse then punishment..

(when in a relationship) I stay in line because it is my desire to do so. I find a great deal of pride in Pleasing Him doing my very best.

sorry knees, try as this slave might, there isn't just one thing, it's a combination of things.

1. Master's pleasure
2. this slave's focus on her purpose and commitment.
3. a crystal clear understanding of what is expected.

Master's pleasure is paramount. He doesn't have to threaten or scare His slave into obedience. this slave's obedience brings Him pleasure, therefore she keeps her FOCUS on her purpose in the relationship and the commitment she made to it. this slave's understanding of what is expected of her is crystal clear, and if she ever has a doubt, all she has to do is respectfully ask for Master to clarify.

Yes, i agree - the craving to please Him, make Him happy, present my submission. But W/we are still quite new to O/one another. my desire to please Him will grow more intense, but i'm sure He will find things that make me cringe as well.

What keeps me in line? The knowledge that as His slave, i represent Him at all times, whether He is present or not. I don't want people to shake their heads and wonder what He was thinking. I adore hearing another Dominant tell Him what a well trained girl He has. But above all, it is the pleasure that i bring Him, and the knowledge that less would disappoint Him.

He is the nicest person in the world...unless he is unhappy.

I inadvertantly made him unhappy, once. I almost cried.

There's only one punishment I'm afraid of, and it's the one I'll get if I ever light another cigarette. I asked Him to help me quit nearly six years ago. He threatened a specific punishment, and I've not smoked a single cigarette since then. Don't ask what it is, because it creeps me out just to think about it (and it's really something OTHER slaves would find enjoyable - or even a privilege - but to me it's heinous). [sm=hair.gif]

I choose it. No one could ever "keep me" in line in the long term.

However, there are things that will remind me of my motivation and commitment. I don't respond to punishment or lectures though.

What keeps me "in line"? I am here to make her life easier and happier. How can I do that if she is angry with me? Or disappointed in me? Can't. Doesn't work like that. It comes down to I love and respect her too much to do anything to disappoint her.
