Bruticus -> Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 6:32:49 PM)

OK, so I had a crazy idea...I figured that it would be a good idea to make up a flyer for collarme.com and post it around the campus of the university I attend. Yeah, good chance they might get yanked if someone gets their knickers in a twist, but there's also a chance that it would help bring more people to the site. More people on the site is (theoretically) good for everyone. So I whipped up this ad, and I figured I'd post it here so that other folks can do the same if they like. It's under Creative Commons 3.0.

Such a bad idea I don't even know where to begin!

Good luck though. I have a feeling you'll find life very difficult for yourself if you do this but good luck.

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 6:36:10 PM)

Who is that woman and what is she doing to that panda??!? [sm=jaw.gif]

DesFIP -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 6:40:17 PM)

I would suggest you get approval from the site owners and from your university first, before you find yourself in hot water.

peppermint -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 6:43:01 PM)

I think before you print out your signs you should check with Collarme to see if the owners wish to be advertised on cork boards around campus.  Also, you will need their permission to use the "COLLARME.COM" logo from the site.

The problem with that sort of advertising is that you will most likely bring horny net geeks to the site who have no clue as to what BDSM, D/s, or M/s are nor do they have any interest.  More members does not always mean more kinky members.  If people are really interested in alternative lifestyles it is simple to use Google to find sites such as Collarme.

VampiresLair -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 6:44:18 PM)

Advertising in a bdsm club might be one thing, but the shitstorm of lookieloos and fake gameplayers that would bring in just on a campus isnt really good for anyone... the site or anything else. Are you that interested in outting yourself and anyone else in your area, if someone pops on to see what its about and then sees someone they know?

LadyPact -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 6:46:53 PM)

I'm still trying to figure out how advertising the site and more people signing up is "good" for everyone.

GreedyTop -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 6:47:07 PM)

wrong on SO many levels already addressed...

VampiresLair -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 6:48:47 PM)

Just out of curiosity, you are aware that your own interest in a "discreet" partner would be thrown to hell and back if you advertised like this, right? Why bother being discreet and then telling everyone in the world where you are and what you are doing?

dcnovice -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 6:50:21 PM)

I wonder if it's too late to get this into the bulletin at church tomorrow?

kc692 -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 6:53:57 PM)

FR---Umm what all of them said....just out of curiosity , would you have thought if you liked coca-cola(although admittely good stuff) that you had the right to use their logos in a brochure to tell everyone you did?

kc692 -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 6:54:46 PM)

Let's make sure moreso its a church in your neck of the woods !![;)]

GreedyTop -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 7:04:49 PM)

btw.. posting images on the forums is verboten,,, you will probably be hearing from XI..........

OMG littlewonder; YES !

Really... we already have scammers by the boatload, no way to differentiate between the real time folks (people who want to meet in the real world) and the on-line folks (who have no intention of meeting in the real world) because all persuasions feel just as sincere in their "real-ness"... now you are going to open it up even more, to people only looking for the kink-de-jour?

Oh please.

If someone wants this life, then they have to work a little bit to seek it out. Otherwise it has no real vaue to them, and conversely they bring little value to whatever local community they are in.

We used to see this all the time with swingers who'd hear about our group, then show up all gung-ho... but soon loose interest because we didn't have wild sex parties... I know, right? LOL

M'God, it's so EASY now... just google "BDSM and your town." There is very little "vetting", anyone can get in. One just has to work at it ... A Little Bit.

Pre-internet, one had to work hard on the networking component in the real world in order to be accepted and *invited* into what were then small groups of people who purposely kept their activities WAY under the radar: Why? Because in most communities, the acts of BDSM constitute assault (did then, and still do now), whether mutually consenting behavior or not. It's just a matter of .. does the District attorney want to prosecute? DA's offices have long used that law to bust folks simply for the PR around election time of being "a crime buster." The poor consensual folks pay by being outed, the press sells papers, and the DA is re-elected.

I would encourage ANYONE, not just the original poster of this thread to please consider NOT doing this. Stay away from online sites in general. ... or if you feel DRIVEN that you simply HAVE TO "turn-on-the-world-to-this-kewl-lifestyle", then think about starting a local munch.

Yes, a crazy idea. Pass.

Nexxxxt ?

*shivers, shakes his head and hits the return key*

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 7:10:37 PM)

So. I guess the consensus is, not such a good idea after all.

Nice piece of work anyway, though.

Bruticus -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 7:45:27 PM)

What the hell is wrong with you people?! Seriously, I do my best not to get upset when people disagree with me, particularly on the Internet - but this is ridiculous. I am really angry and I just don't understand why everyone felt it necessary to pile on like this. I thought I had a good idea and I thought I would share it - if you would prefer that people not come around and share their ideas and such, persuade the site management to close the site to new members.

Shit, I feel like I'm back in high school again and under attack from all sides. If you don't like the idea, fine - but was it really necessary to attack me, belittle me, ridicule me, or in the case of one poster, visit my profile to get ammunition with which to verbally attack me? You should all be ashamed of yourselves. And if images are verboten here, disable the functionality.

Shit.

You had a crazy idea. You posted it (and violated forum rules in the process). You got feedback. It was thumbs down.

It's a public forum, dude. You haven't seen anything resembling real attacks and pile-ons here. You'll know it when you see it.

So you got shot down. Take your bruised ego home.

Slashing out proves what exactly?

Actually, as they told you, these posters just saved you a truckload of trouble.

Move on. Tomorrow's another day.

VampiresLair -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 7:52:48 PM)

Wow, yeah. I checked out your profile to see what you were all about. I happened to note that you made a point of looking specifically for someone discreet... so I pointed out here for you to see in the thread that it wouldntstay that way. You were not attacked, so back up and chill out. I was making sure you saw the difference between what you suggested and what you were seeking. Promoting = outting for most people.

Think of it more like saving you from making a well intentioned mistake that could have cost you WAY more than you expected. You are in grad school, you will be moving to a professional world... do you really want the ghost of an accidental outting following you once you get out of school? If this were something out in te pen that everyone could happily and safely divulge, then Id be all for it. But, truth is it isnt. A lot of people on this site could be seriously damaged if they were found out. Yourself included. I dont think that thought occured to you, your ad idea was so tempting that you didnt think through the ramifications. Just the potential plus sides, without the potential negatives as well.

DV

LadyPact -> RE: Promoting Collarme.com (10/17/2009 7:55:40 PM)

It seems to Me that you put an idea on a discussion board.  I think the majority of the people thought it wasn't a good idea and told you so.  That's what the forums are for....... Participation and expressing views.

Darn near everyone on these boards has had a post or two that no one agreed with.  Hell, I'm famous for it.

If you would like to advertise yourself on campus, why not do that instead?  Then you can deal with the wonderful avalanche that awaits.

Many would view this as solicitation as while the site itself is free, the fact there items and services that are for sale, This would be their justication to deny one the opportunity to engage in the activity you have proposed
