I'd buy the pavement bedsheets in a heartbeat.

Yeah, I like the pavement bedsheet as well, not so keen on the rest of the stuff.
I don't think it is particularly degrading all in all. I think we all need to become more immune to finding insults in everything.

Sure, but why go imitation when you can have the real thing?

i think they are kinda cool and could serve as a daily reminder for something most of us take for granted.

I'd be interested to hear what the homeless think of things like this though.

I think that anything that brings the issue of homelessness to peoples attention is a good thing and I like that they are donating part of the profits to homeless youth

I don't find it degrading either. It's a reminder each & every time you put your head on a soft pillow & your body on a comfy mattress that there are others sleeping outside on the ground/or in a box.
This reminds us all of the time, not just during the Holidays.

...not me.   Why do I want a guilt trip?

I don't need any more reminders that the world is broken.

I am sorry if it sounds cold.

I think if they slapped a name on them like Tommy Hilfiger they would be the next trend. Then they could come out with a bedhead that looks like bridge pillars, dressers and nightstands that look like egg crates. A whole bedroom suite carefully appointed by the world's finest decorators.

They could go further and sell jeans that loook like they're 200 years old, Tshirts that look like they were last worn by an elephant and for the elite class of spenders, pants that don't fit. Oh wait, they already have that.

I fail to find offense in this. When you are homeless you do not care much where the blanket comes from or what it looks like. Reminds me of Grandma, when our clothes got so bad that the washing machine all but shredded them, she would take them. Every year or so she would produce a quilt. They were literally made from scraps. Anyone who got them loved them, no matter what their economic status.

To me it looks like capitalizing off others grief. I’m also uncertain how much awareness warm soft bedding can bring to the reality of actually having no place to sleep other than a sidewalk, or box.

If we were discussing the selling of dolls with broken appendages, covered in bruises, cigarette burns and whatever else can happen to someone who has been abused, claiming it was to raise awareness; would that be acceptable also? … as long as some of the profit was donated to a group who supports such people?

No offense to those who don’t object… just trying to figure out why I do.

My town has a homeless shelter.  So- we gave at the office.  (in a manner of speaking)

I have volunteered many over nights there.  The place gets plenty of grant money.  Jim also was a volunteer-he too did many overnights and meal preps there.

The place gets so many donations that some of the clutter ends up in a dumpster.   Maybe for good reason- yet- maybe not.

I don't really want to second guess the management there.. as for the most part they do a wonderful job.

Those particular sets.  Its designers joining forces with a bedding company and chariety organisations.  With 30% on the gross going to centre point, I would surmise that the designers aren't taking a cut and the rest goes on initial outlay/fabric etc.  And the article does state it's non profit - or at least defines it as such.

I'm not seeing where it says non profit, though there is this..

Non-profits take note: The designer goods have clearly raised some money, since the original 'Home' pattern is currently back-ordered on Dutch By Desing's site!

Edited to add... not meaning to argue, as I am not even sure it's the money that bothers me.
