G'morning all:

I realize I will probably generate a lot of flack with this post, so don't get your panties in a twist, it's only my opinion, for whatever it's worth.

Being an agnostic presents certain challenges when replying to these ideas. I don't believe in the existence of any higher power. Organized religions are scams or foils to prey upon peoples' fears and their need to believe in something bigger than themselves. People would be better off if they simply had the cojones to pull themselves up by their own boot straps and rely on themselves rather than seek strength in an outside, untouchable source. Seeking guidance or support from family or friends in a time of crisis is another matter and another thread.

My faith is primarily in the inherent goodness that is possible in every person. We all have the capacity to commit great acts of good or evil. It's how you comport yourself that makes the difference. I choose to follow the "Golden Rule" as much as I can. I won't lower myself to revenge if someone does me dirty, but if people are good to me, they receive it back tenfold. If we all interacted with each other with the civility, courtesy and dignity we'd like to receive in return, the world would be a nicer place. Having a firm set of ethics and adhering to them helps quite a bit. This said, I attempt to live my life without rancor and try to be helpful or courteous whenever possible.

Stay safe, play nice, & share your toys w/ others...

Spirituality.

What do I believe?

I will die. But I will never cease to be a part of this universe. I have always been a part of it. I can look up to the stars, and see where I came from, and where I may someday be again. Even now I feel I have been, am now, and always will be connected to all that there is.

I don't believe I will be conscious of what I am after my death in this form. No more than I was before I was born. I will spread out into the earth, to what grows there, becoming ever smaller parts of ever more things. I will spread further into all the things that I now marvel at. Spread further back into the universe that swept me together to gaze up and out into it for a moment.

This view of my life gives me peace. It does not give me the comfort of some second chance at being "alive". I know I must value every moment of this time of my existence. I do not always have a second chance. I should do no harm, for I may not be able to make amends. I should not wait till tomorrow for those things that are really important, there may be no tomorrow. I should forgive myself my mistakes only if I learned from them.

And I must never fool myself that I always live up to my own ideals. I waste many precious days, I cause harm, I watch opportunities fade into yesterday. But I try to do better. That's about all I can do.
