I think with HIPPA laws alone, this should absolutely be unacceptable.
it has to be...hell, HIPPA is so tough even the pharmacy i go to cannot announce your prescription is ready any longer. They now just use your initials over the loudspeaker.

It doesnt relate SM, except in the neanderthal mind of a male who believes women are inferior.

This comment is either born from ignorance, or zealotry.

Prostate surgery would be needed to save a life. An abortion would be just the opposite.

yanno...if by some nearly non-existent chance that this does happen, it is only right that the name of the father be publicized as well.

i don't believe the doctor will be required to give the names of anyone to the Department of health and the DOH won't be publishing names of the patients.  The form is an anonymous form submitted to the DOH.  Unfortunately if they note this information even anonymous info separately per person it will be identifiable in smal towns etc.

Even so, i think this is complete BS, i can see if the patient CHOOSES to participate and fills out the form with full disclosure as to what she is filling out and submitting to the DOH, but it being REQUIRED?  Hell no.  And my question is what about minors?  I don't know if they need parental consent to have an abortion nowadays, but they damn well do need parental concent to having ANY information released about them to any place,  As someone else noted, in a small town little information could go along way especially with speculation.  I hope this gets slapped down quickly and noted for its BS.

In the end, this isn't about abortion, this is about the rights and privacy of the patients who seek legal medical treatments being exploited for their choices.

The article says that there are penalties for not providing the information.  But it doesn't mention what the penalties are for providing the WRONG information.  If I were a doctor in OK, I'd have an inexplicable computer glitch that entered the wrong data that somehow matched the wives of cosponsors Lamb and Sullivan.  And claim HIPPA confidentiality when they demanded to see the original records.

I forgot to say this last night, Steven, but I think that would be the only fair and ethical route to take.

I agree...  This of course comes with the additional stigma for girls who are not monogamous, or in a monogamous relationship.   The lady in question would still have a bigger social problem.    M
