I think this is very good news for the uninsured and even better news for business owners and corporations(except those in the health insurance business).

~FR I think they all finally realize that public option is almost a sure thing. I think our Congressmen/women are scared for their jobs and have found a way to take the heat off themselves and shove it off on the states.

It has gone from single-payer to public option to now being the states' decisions whether we even get a public option. There is already a bill in the Florida legislature to opt-out and Gov. Crist is unlikely to oppose it because he is facing re-election and the hard-right conservatives, who are going after GOP candidates they believe too moderate, are running a candidate against him.

exactly rule. if the state's opt out, then the congressional candidates dont have to answer for that come election time... so they think.. so they hope.. who knows... maybe they will, maybe they wont. Would make sense to do it this way, take the spot light from the center stage and split it up among the states, watering down the intensity. Florida may be interesting in two aspects.... it has a high population of retirees. it also has alot of low income workers. the results of such a bill will be interesting to watch.

Instead of doing what voters want them to do, the Democratic leadership is playing games... and there are those who smugly support that (as long as its their side doing it). Isnt it the libertarians who say that the states should hold more power? all politics can be viewed as a game. i see it more as risk management. public option has become such a hot bed issue that i think it should go for a national vote myself. why not let the people decide.

Which brings me to another point.. ok.. a few points. Why would the insurance companies spend so much money to defeat a bill if they thought it had no chance to pass? What would the use of that money have been had it not been spent on trying to defeat this bill? What will the profit margins show for the year... a loss? because this will obviously go down as an operating expense. There was a new report about an insurance company having an internal memo about dropping a bunch of dogs from the policy... i believe it was in reference to MS patients... but in the process of dropping a few patients, they were going to drop a whole block of customers along with them. how would those of you feel, who have your own insurance polocies, about being treated this way, and watching the same companies battle so viciously to keep a bill down, while proclaiming your not "making any profit"?

There was a government program once that instead of treating people they just killed them... Millions of them. You really want to compare horror stories? Government care isn't always all that its cracked up to be. Money is never unlimited and there isn't an endless supply of qualified doctors and nurses who will work for government peanuts. Tell me something tazzy, and I'd like a direct answer. If no one should have to pay for health care, which I've seen you write that in a recent post - why should anyone have to pay for food or clothing or shelter.
