If states can opt-out, im not too sure how that would be set up, Sanity.  Do you know?

John Cornyn does:

"If a state chooses to opt out, you do not have to have a public plan or government-run option in your state. But the taxpayers are still paying for these subsidies that would be enjoyed by everyone else who does participate.

I do not think we should be fooled by this. Some people have said, like Robert Samuelson has called it a mirage, meaning that it offers something that it does not in fact guarantee, which is private choice. It is a pathway to a government-run plan, a Trojan horse, if you will."

Or see my earlier post.

Federal income taxes will support this incoherent mess, this shell game of responsibility.

Correct?

Is this just your assumption or do have some funding details I'm not aware of?

Since another one of our conservative posters has come out with your exact same argument I can only blame it on me missing Fox today.

Because I'm sure it's the latest ludicrous Republican/conservative argument against reform.

So let's say you live in a state that decides not to opt out.  Then you decide to keep your private insurance.  Well, that's still just totally wrong because the evil government is making me pay someone else's bills through my tax dollars.
But you are already subsidizing those that do not have insurance through higher premiums.

Let's look at it another way though.  If I don't have children my property taxes still go to pay for schools.  Should we allow the childless to opt out of the share of their tax that supports public education?

If I don't drive, should I be allowed a tax deduction for not using the roads our taxes pay for?
