FR Actually it is a pretty tough question. While I would never give up my beloved bacon grease, hamburger isn't quite the same. Bacon grease imparts a good flavor to what is fried in it, but not so with hamberger grease. One of the best things about bacon grease is that it can withstand quite high temperatures, you might find the same true of hamburger grease. At the higher temperature you might actually be able to use it to fry something. If you use a pretty high heat, not very much of it is going to get into your food. Funny though, this is a good subject because I have taken to buying the cheapest hamburger I can find. All that high class low fat stuff tastes like sawdust, or more aptly put, has the texture of sawdust. For the best results cooking meat, it needs grease and salt. But the thing is not all of it makes it to your plate. That is crucial with the bacon grease as well. Maybe you could try frying some potatoes in it. Of course you drain them just like anything else. Even too much olive oil can wreck the food, this stuff is bound to be much worse. While I don't think hamburger grease would be very healthy, it should not be as bad as margarine or shortening, which are both hydrogenated. But note, you just use it as a vehicle for the heat, after it has done it's job you don't want to eat it. People do convert deisel engines to run on used cooking oil, which is picked up at many restaurants. Perhaps they can use hamburger grease as well ? That's about all I can think of now. Maybe something else will come to me. T
