Firm much of what you say here makes sense......but explaining how one can put forth Palin as an answer to what ails this country is a tough sell.
No matter philosophies...no matter value diferentials....goals aside...the woman is simplistic(and not in a good way) she is without nuance. One without depth of thought....there's just no way to turn this sow's ear into a silk purse.
And the fact that so many try is downright scary.

I have to agree with Mike.

McCain got desperate, shot from the hip, launched Sarah with poor vetting. She's milking the spotlight (for which I don't necessarily blame her) and the conservatives, desperate for a poster child, can't get past circling the wagons.

They must know, however (as indeed, there are several bright conservatives), that they fucked up and have to divorce themselves somehow (without alienating the voters who do in fact agree with her factually inaccurate creationist dogma and simplistic misunderstandings).

My own feeling is that if the Republican voters would be happy voting for the ridiculous sow, then they don't deserve any better.
It would be pretty rough on the rest of the country, though, and I shudder to think what she's likely to do to global realpolitik. She'd probably end up making the chimp look like Roosevelt...

Does the book contain many gems like the one below.

“If God had not intended for us to eat animals, how come He made them out of meat?”

luckydawg -> RE: Palin book now located in the bargain bin (11/27/2009 5:13:36 PM)

Or why did we envlove incisor teeth? and eat meat since prehistory...Is evolution wrong somehow?

And the quote is 'tasty meat" isn't it? A rather old joke.

Yeah it is an old one. She probably saw it on a bumper sticker on the way to the show. If I am ever in the same room with Palin I'm gonna yell "Hey Sarah! I'm made out of meat how bout you come on over here and EAT ME!"

I noticed you mentioned in another thread that you don't have any kinky friends. I just want to say, it sounds like you have some excellent ideas on how to make some. Lots, in fact. Quickly.

[:)] I'm sure that little stunt would make me a few close friends in Sarah's security team.

And interesting take on some of the book's content:

Op-Ed: Palin in Wasilla: Resistance to insider assimilation
The Appeal Democrat
November 29, 2009 12:01:00 AM
By Dan Calabrese

You can't help but notice that just about everyone who is part of the political establishment detests Sarah Palin. And you can't help but notice that Palin couldn't care less.

Early in the second chapter of "Going Rogue," a chapter titled "Kitchen-Table Politics," you learn everything you need to know to understand why. This is the way Palin has been wired for a very long time. During her two terms on the Wasilla City Council, followed by two terms as the city's mayor, she consistently demonstrated a refreshing immunity to the insider mentality that tends to afflict people who serve in government at any level.

...

Among Palin-haters, one of the most popular canards is that she is an airhead, and clearly not capable of dealing with the intricacies of government. As this chapter demonstrates, nothing could be further from the truth.

Palin not only has a keen grasp of the details of governing and budgeting, she also understands the political difficulties inherent in making government responsive. Many of her antagonists at the national level scoffed at the notion that her experience in Wasilla was of any value. Quite the contrary, local government is where a public official's decisions have the most direct impact on the electorate. It's where you really have to understand the ins and outs of what you're doing.

No voting for bills without reading them first.

As I've said many times before, and will say again now, I have no idea if Palin ever wants to run for president, and it is not my intention here to either tout her for president or argue for (or against) her qualifications.

But it has become widely accepted conventional wisdom that Palin is nothing more than a populist sloganeer who has no serious grasp of governing substance. Even a fair number of conservative commentators have bought into this notion, and are warning against the support of Palin as the mere embrace of empty style over substance.

Bullshit.

I think this guy is onto something.

And I like his use of the vernacular.  [:)]

Read the whole thing.

Really Firm.....and it wasn't your intention to argue her qualifications.Imagine what you could have came up with if you had intended to argue it.No matter though....a pigs ear is still a pigs ear.....and never a silk purse.
Sometimes conventional wisdom is just that...wisdom.She offers nothing other than empty sloganering and has no governing substance....hell,I'm willing to speculate that if you sent her back to little old Wasilla today...even after her turn at Governor her campaign experience....and the book tour she would still be a disaster....probably build the town a tennis court or something .
