Dark steven because you told us today, and it's only just been today they called for the 4th time., You gotta have time for it to be the next day so you can write them lol.

He told them send him some paper work tho an they never did, so we're even more inclined to believe they're scamming us.

Do you also know we're late evening here? It's 10:02 pm. I made this thread at oh say 7 pm.

Not necessarily. Records are not 100% accurate.

Tell 'em that you're only going to work with them in writing going forward. Force them to make a paper trail.

Tell them to "mail a letter including the details of the debt so I can see if it is legitimate or not'" If they refuse, then tell them "I am going to call the attorney general's office about their harassment". Use these exact words.

Any one who asks for your SS number on the phone should be mistrusted.

Here is a bit of info on how to find out whats going on with other people who are being called.

My stance on any and all collection agencies:

Collection agencies are amoral, heartless companies who thrive off on what could best be described as extortion. Their business plan consists primarily of making your life so miserable that you will give them money to go away. I doubt that anyone here, save the poster who was employed by one, has ever had a legitimate business relationship with a collection agency. Collection agencies do not offer goods or services to the general public, nor do they loan money to be repaid. They are a legal haven for practices that are more reminiscent of the mafia than legitimate business.

That said, if you do have a legitimate debt that they have 'purchased' from a company you did business with, they have legal avenues to recover that debt. Make them use them. Make them decide if it's worth their time, money, and effort to go through the courts to enforce their claim on your money. Ignore their calls, and don't let them harass you into giving in. Collection agencies 'buy' debt for pennies on the dollar, gambling that even if they never collect from most, the one or two that give into the campaign of harassment will make the entire enterprise worthwhile.

I get calls every day. Not just for me- but the lady who once owned the house and the prior phone number owner as well.

Term- giving the last 4 digits of the SSN should not be done.   That is the identifyer part of it.   The first 3 numbers mean the state issued- the middle 2 numbers- are the batch number. anyhow it is too much info.

Now as to the calls easy.

Happily admit you are you.   :-)   But you ARE home.     From there the call becomes an effortless timewaster.   Quietly set the phone down- and walk away.   Enjoy your day.   do not argue - do not get mad. simply set the phone down and go back to the hot sex you were having.

Now you can have friends who call ring once then call right back.

I changed my number and it did not help. Just set the phone down- dont slam it- dont argue- do not have a bad day.

most likely you do owe money on a nonsense item- possibly even 20 years old.

every 50 years a new king declares a debt jubilee.   So we are just weeks away from the people themself declaring such a jubilee.

Something they are also doing.... trying to collect on old debts. Generally, after 7 years, the debt is no longer collectable, unless you agree. They try to gain as much information, dig through their databases, and attempt to convince people that a bill they had in 1988 is still in collections and needs to be paid.

No is your best friend... so is... dont ever call this number again... though that doesnt often work.

Just from the little bit of research I've googled on them they seem like a legitimate collections company albeit their tactics for collecting are just as nasty as other collection agencies and thus there are complaints against them but they don't seem to be breaking any laws.

They probably ask for a ssn as a form of identification that the debt is under. Usually banks use ssn's for collections recoveries.

That is mere presumption, and one that should not be allowed to stand. Debt collection agencies, and attorneys, are among the most unscrupulous, and frequently engage in the most unture, illegal and nefarious practices to trick people out of their money.

Another posted in re the FDCPA. Read it. Know your rights. Act accordingly.

Now on that I have to agree 110% and attorneys top that list by a big margin. Ever tried getting paid for something you do for an attorney? they'll screw you over any way they can to avoid it, for the most part. Its their job. I don't trust any lawyer and i'm well aware of many of the shady activities they pull off on a regular basis. and like they themselves say: its not what you know, its what you can prove. Debt collectors are no better and neither are cops for the most part.

No, it isn't. While it doesn't apply to every single one you will ever meet, criminal defense lawyers, coroprate lawyers, copyright lawyers, will/trust/anything involving money lawyers and those high priced lawyers that defend members of the angels, mafia and related organizations are the most shady, corrupt people you will ever meet. In fact some of the people involved in the very highest levels of criminal organizations are themselves lawyers.

I can't think of a single legitimate reason a debt collector would need you to give them your social security number before they'll talk to you. If they don't know who you are, why are they calling you? I'd tell 'em, "Hey, you're the one who called me; I don't 'need' to do anything. Blow it out your ass." And then hang up the phone.
