Suggestions: If they want to release him, tell them you can't take him home. They will kick the powers that be into finding a nursing home.
oh goodness yes Rhi...the hospital social service dept should be made aware that you need placement for him.

Holly, I've let them know that I'm desperately searching for a nursing center for him.  I've also let the nurses know, and the doctor who is on the case know.  Hopefully, since the lil snot socialworker who was Supposed to be helping me find one has had 3 extra days since she ewas supposed to call me, and still hasn't..... has fallen down on the job, so to speak..... this'll act as a kick in the pants to them.
Rhi...if he is transferred to a hospice/nursing facility directly from the hospital...stay the hell away during the transfer. There is nothing you can do to make it easier for him, but he can make it a nightmare for you. Give him a day or two to get settled before you see him again.

That is actually what I had intended to do, Holly - was to find out the when and where, and make sure that's where I'm NOT.

Himself has refused to let me spend more than about an hour at the hospital per day - says I'm too stressed out and emotionally exhausted if I'm up there longer.  He's not keen on me going up there at all, but knows that I Have to at some point.  This weekend though, he's pretty much been of the "you will relax and catch up on sleep - or else" philosophy.

Dad knows that he's most likely going straight into a nursing home from the hospital, provided he survives to get out of the hospital at all.  Currently, that's still questionable.

Quick update here.  I had a long talk with the hospital social worker Friday afternoon.  She is getting the ball rolling on the medicaide front - because apparantly, the aps worker, however well meaning, has pretty much zero clue of how things actually Work on that end of things.  We've got a couple of nursing homes who've already stated they're willing to take him as a "pending" so that he can go straight from the hospital to a nursing home.

Officially, he won't be coming back HERE when/if he is released.  Which in and of itself is a load off my shoulders, and I feel like I can finally start Breathing again.

It's still questionable as to whether he's going to live that long, but right now they're going under the assumption that he's going to make it this time.  There is still a possibility of complications in the medicaid process, though not like there were, since this social worker is someone who Specializes in stuff like this.

But it is looking like it's coming to an end in some form or fashion, even if it's not the form I feared a few days ago.

Another quick update.

As of this evening, dad is transfered to a nursing home that is in the same neighborhood as my house.  He will be on Skilled Nursing Care for the next 2 weeks, which his insurance will pay for 100% of the cost.  During that 2 weeks, I will be setting up the rest of the paperwork for Medicaide to do part of the payments for his Long Term Care, which will start on the same day that he leaves Skilled Nursing care.

He will be transfered first thing tomorrow morning from the hospital straight to the nursing home.  I will be going up tomorrow around noonish to take his cloths and such up there to the nursing home.

The ordeal is OVER.  I feel like.. gods.. like a thousand pound weight has been lifted from my shoulders, I've suddenly lost 20 years of age that had crept up on me over the past 12 months, I can take a deep breath and not feel like I'm drowning, and there is some sort of odd light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank God Rhi, you have done more than anyone should ever have to do and he needs more than you can give.

I love good endings. You have your dad in your neighborhood, and can see him everyday if you want. Or not see him, if you want.
