Your boys words, so they are teabaggers.

Yet no where in that clip does anyone refer to the protestors as "teabaggers". So what is it supposed to show?

Though if MM had not changed the terms of his agrument, removing CNN from the challenge, your clip would be a perfect example to compare with the eariler CNN clip about the 'Tea parties" showing bias.

But surley you do agree that the challenge MM presented was nonsense, since he had to change paramaters in the middle in order to get the result he wanted. Ycan at least be that honest can't you?

and the term "teabaggers" was brought to the Mainstream Media (not blogs or man on the street level which according to the terms of this challenge do not count), by MSNBC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_Party_protests

The article you linked says exactly the opposite -

quote:

An article in Salon.com by Alex Koppelman traced the controversy to a photograph by David Weigel posted on The Washington Independent website on 27 February,[121] showing a protester holding a sign that read "Tea Bag the Liberal Dems Before They Tea Bag You!!"[122] Weigel's report was referenced by bloggers, including Wonkette, who used "teabagging" or "teabagger" in their headline.[121] In a 14 March report on Fox News, Griff Jenkins said, "ReTeaParty.com has a headline, 'Teabag the fools on in DC on Tax Day.' They want you ... to take a tea bag, put it an envelope, and mail it to the White House."

Your article goes on to say that several weeks later, MSNBC (and others) began making numerous jokes about the term, but the article is quite clear that the teabaggers themselves are the ones who first began using the term "teabagging."

luckydawg -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/17/2009 12:10:03 PM)

No panda, we are discussing MMs challenge here, which exempts websites and news portals.

MSNBC is the one who brought this term into the Mainstream Media.

Let me get this straight, your stsandard is...That if a single protestor at an event carries a sign, it speaks for the movement.

Are you sure? Considering the horrible anti american signs carried at so many of the "Anti War" rallies and left wing protests, do you really want to use that standard? really?

luckydawg -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/17/2009 12:14:05 PM)

Actually Mnot it said "tea bag" not "teabag", but I am getting used to people trying to slip stuff like that by.

But I take it you do agree with me that the clip you posted (compared to the CNN clip about the Tea Partiers) does indeed show a bias, and MM had to change terms in order to be able to ignore it and pretend he won his challenge.

And in terms of the mainstream media, it was MSNBC that brought the term up.

mnottertail -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/17/2009 12:17:17 PM)

Ucky,

'it' said that? it the signs? what did griff say, did he say tea space bag in the video?

brown bag lunch ........ brown baggers

OK, have it your way.................

TEA BAGGERS

You win, I lose. FOX NEWS.

Ron

(oh, and I never argued that FOX news didnt have a neo-con bias, shit I was one of the first ones to admit it, you might want to work on the reading comprehension, because again, yes I agree with you FOX news has a bias.) We got no argument here, other than a space bar far as I can see.

luckydawg -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/17/2009 12:46:40 PM)

I love your new trick, you get focused and use it over and over.

Of course fox leans to the right, can you admit CNN and MSNBC lean to the left?

mnottertail -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/17/2009 12:48:46 PM)

Hell yeah, I admitted that right outta the gate too.

It wasn't a single protester carrying a sign, it was also the organization itself urging people to "teabag the fools in DC."  So what's the message here - "We're teabagging people, we're people who teabag, but don't you dare call us teabaggers!"? They picked the term because it sounded catchy and they thought it would get them attention, and it did. Unfortunately it wasn't the kind of attention they had in mind, but that's their problem. The fact that the media picked up on it and ran with it is not evidence of media bias. It's evidence that stupid people ought to be more careful when they're picking out buzz words to identify their organization.

luckydawg -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/17/2009 1:02:34 PM)

Panda, you can easily prove me wrong, by posting some evidence that the leaders were saying that.

I posted an article that traced it from one sign, to a website, to the blogs, then MSNBC, then CNN.

Teach me something, show me a different time line (with footnotes and dates). If you can. Of course it would have been corrected on Wiki if you could, but I am willing to look at evidence if you have any.

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/17/2009 1:05:08 PM)

LD, I'm just going by the information that was in the article you linked.
quote:

In a 14 March report on Fox News, Griff Jenkins said, "ReTeaParty.com has a headline, 'Teabag the fools on in DC on Tax Day.' They want you ... to take a tea bag, put it an envelope, and mail it to the White House."

luckydawg -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/17/2009 1:27:16 PM)

Yet reteaparty.com, is a site that lets people post things. That was again simply a single person writing that, not the leadership.

LETS READ THE PARAGRAPH YOU PULLED A SENTANCE FROM...

The label "teabagging" has been applied to Tea Party protests in general,[118] and to the specific protest gesture of mailing a tea bag to the White House.[119][120] The label has prompted puns based on pre-existing use of the word to denote oral–scrotal contact as a sex act or prank. This has been deplored by Tea Party activists.[118] An article in Salon.com by Alex Koppelman traced the controversy to a photograph by David Weigel posted on The Washington Independent website on 27 February,[121] showing a protester holding a sign that read "Tea Bag the Liberal Dems Before They Tea Bag You!!"[122] Weigel's report was referenced by bloggers, including Wonkette, who used "teabagging" or "teabagger" in their headline.[121] In a 14 March report on Fox News, Griff Jenkins said, "ReTeaParty.com has a headline, 'Teabag the fools in DC on Tax Day.' They want you ... to take a tea bag, put it an envelope, and mail it to the White House."[120] Koppelman speculates that Jenkins was more likely than ReTeaParty.com to have been aware of the double entendre; he summarizes, "for the most part conservatives haven't actually been using the words in such a way as to lend themselves to double entendre. With one or two exceptions, almost all of it has actually been coming from the left."[121].

But since there were leftist protestors who felt that America deserved to be hit on 911, so do you. Right?, I saw the signs and the heard the "chickens coming home to roost" talk. That is the ridiculous standard you are trying to use to make your point.

No it was MSNBC that started that. You are simply lying now.

Just as a suggestion, you might want to start doing a little simple research before you start calling people liars.

In case the photo doesn't copy clearly enough, the badge he is holding says "Proud to be a Teabagger".

luckydawg -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/17/2009 11:04:56 PM)

So that guy is the media?

You are using the same standard as Panda. which means, any asshole anarchist who showed up at an Anti war rallyholding a sign speaks for the entire anti war movement.

So you and Panda were glad the US got hit on 911 and think we deserved it. right? Roosting chickens and all that. Isn't that the conclusion of using your standard. or does it only apply in one direction for you. Which would be typical of a hypocrite and an intellectually dishonest person.

Plus we are talking about a specific challenge posed by MM which eliminates guys like this from the equation

And MSNBC then CNN picked up on it. And it indeed shows bias.

Bullshit!

You brought up the teabaggers and now you are trying to tuck your tail between your legs and pretend you didn't.

That guy in the photo didn't make that badge himself, they were widely sold at teabagger events, until some of the dumbshits finally woke up and realized what it meant.

And what in the hell does 9/11 have to do with this?

luckydawg -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/17/2009 11:21:36 PM)

No, the example CNN laughing and making fun of the tea party protestors, was brought up pages ago. I simply commented on it. and MMs reaction to that example of bias. Can't you even follow the thread....

Sorry you are so confused, and can not grasp what I wrote. I guess thats why you can't remember what was in this thread a few pages ago. The lack of cognition and memory actually explains a lot of your views.

What are you talking about and where is all this coming from? I don't understand what on earth you're arguing. All I'm saying is that the term "teabag" was first brought up by the teabaggers themselves, and the media later picked up on it. You yourself admit that this is true. What in the world has that got to do with thinking the US had it coming on 9/11? I have absolutely no idea what you've got hold of here or why you're beating me over the head with it like that.

No. It does not. As long as some of the teabaggers continue to call themselves teabaggers, a lot of the media outlets are going to feel perfectly free to use the term themselves. And why not? It's catchy, it's concise, it's funny, and most importantly, when you say it everyone knows exactly what you're talking about. That's the perfect formula for a catch phrase to become a standard term.

I'm pretty sure I grasped what you wrote.

And you were wrong.

I provided you one very clear source.

I can provide more if you didn't find that suitable.

luckydawg -> RE: Take the Fox Balance/Bias Challenge! (11/18/2009 2:15:57 AM)

Panda you and RML are arguing that because an anonomous old man has that slogan, it represents the leadership of the movement, right??

that it is proper for news anchors to snicker and insult the movement, because an old man has a pin.

that a few protestors said something, it represents the movement and has some sort of relevance right?

Or are you arguing something else?

If something else please explain

Now here is a real test of your character RML. The tea parties and the media coverage of tehm was introduced to the thread on page 3 post 50, and not by me.

how do you respond to being shown wrong? the silent readers are watching

What is being argued is that the tea party movement called themselves teabaggers initially, ignorant of the meaning of the term, and the networks only reported it.

You want to portray it as one old man, but it was not.

As I said before he did not make that badge himself, nor was there only one sign or one person that referred to themselves as that.

Then when they got laughed at suddenly it was not the teabaggers themselves who had used that expression but another example of liberal media bias.
