you also are not a teacher of english literature or anything like that, you made several comprehension mistakes, and cannot understand englische as she is goodley spokene (Chaucer), so maybe you teach auto mechanics or something, besides strawmanning.

When commenting upon another's perceived literary errors, it is good practice to begin one's sentence with a capital letter, and to then not invent new words.

quote:

1) They commented on world affairs, this does not answer the question raised, why did we go into Iraq? and you present red herring arguments, and you answered an illigitmate appeal to ignorance, among other things as you plainly said "why don't we ask these folks" (who did not in any wise buttress your implied conclusion) as they did not urge invasion of Iraq nor did they urge the manufacture of evidence.

I think they stated the case quite plainly, much better than anyone on the right did, so I let them speak for me. They all claimed that Iraq had WMD's and they did so before Bush. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't most of them support the action at the time? Most of them only changed their minds after we went into Iraq, which makes them weasels. Support the weasels if you think it helps your case. At least Obama was consistent, for which I give him credit.

quote:

2) And not so many pre and post equivalence quotes there, Nemesys as you would like to portray, but what are they saying now that the cat is out of the bag on manufactured evidence?
No theory of Bush newly infecting these people(your quotes) was proffered you, you are using a strawman, by attributing to me a argument that I certainly did not make.

You said what you said. If you didn't mean what you said, I'll just have to plead my "comprehension mistakes". In my limited understanding of the English language, "each and every one' means, well, "each and every one".

Sooner or later, I'll learn "liberal". In the meantime, thanks for translating for me.

I wish you well, N

what words were invented? again, a strawman, what literary errors did I accuse you of?

Nevermind, not worth the effort.

In other words, you realized I was telling the truth before you deleted your comments that labeled me as "ignorant".

All it took was a Google search to figure out that I wasn't.

But it was rather penile of you to retract your mistake under the guise of "not worth the effort".

I wish you well, N

Close. Strawmanning.

Wrong again.....you made the claim...you back it up.

You're not any authority on "right" or "wrong", but here goes. I can only cite experiences. Here's the most recent: In one of my classes, I show segments of classic propaganda movies and ask students to analyze them in light of today's perspective. After I showed a long clip from "The Birth of a Nation", in September, one young lady blinked in horror and said "No wonder Republicans are so racist to our president!" I asked her what she meant, and she asked "Well, weren't those guys on horses the Republicans?" It seems that racist and Republicans were synonyms for her, and a few other folks in the class nodded their heads in agreement. A couple others looked at them as if they were aliens talking.

Now, where was she taught this? I don't know. Was it her parents? Her high school? College classes? What she's seen on TV, or read in the media (wait a minute - the media isn't biased... never mind.) Church, from someone of Reverend Wrights "USA of KKK" school of thought? Impossible to say... but with instructors on campus who are quite willing to politically indoctrinate students with signs on their doors even as they wait for advisement, I have a pretty good idea where not to exclude. No, I don't think it's part of anyone's official curriculum... it's just that when it comes to hating the right, it's fashionable to be unashamed and unapologetic about it, particularly on many college campuses.

Fair and Balanced... so now it's your turn.

I wish you well, N
You offer up some dubious anecdotal evidence and feel you have made your case......god help your students.
I would say...now its your turn, but in truth I don't think your up to the game.

~FR~

College students today don't know the difference between the Civil War and Civil Rights.

To assert intentional teaching of misinformation misses the real problem.

But then, we have American adults who believe the earth is flat, and that they're entitled to their opinion.

Penile?

I'll have you know I'm HUGELY, MASSIVELY Penile.

But we can discuss the size of my penis later.

It wasn't worth the effort because your view, which I'm sure you think is unique, is the byproduct of the conservative brainwashing machine of Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, etc., and have been so routinely discredited here they are not worth wasting the time to address yet again.

But let me elaborate.

It was not only ignorant but scary that someone like you is teaching anything to anyone if you don't understand the basis of his comments.

there are several cites I could add, but let this suffice.

ing added to the end of a word means that the word is being done. it turns it into an action. It is real common in the english language.

See Tim, he; by trade, performs english professoring and will undoubtably be agreeing with me. (now that; is clumsy, but correct enough to still be called english).

I'm staying out of this. Choose my battles kind of thing.

But to the question, depends on the context:

I am swimming -- yes, action presently performed...verb.

Swimming is my favorite sport -- creates a noun.

I forgot my swimming trunks -- adjective.

You guys can decide what to make of it. I do this enough all day.

Enjoy!

mnottertail -> RE: Uncivil War: Conservatives to challenge a dozen GOP candidates (11/9/2009 8:48:11 AM)

Yes, Tim. You are correct, (well, DUHHHHHHH) I should have thought outside the box, I was focused on 'strawmanning'. The english language is alot more versatile than I gave it credit for.

Thanks for correcting me, because I need correcting.

And we are far off the topic, when we start on english grammar, in this thread.

Ron

As Calvin (of Calvin and Hobbes) once observed:

"Verbing weirds language."

So does nominalization...but a topic for a different day.

Again, thanks for Timming me.

Good thing we didn't get around to metaphoring.

Or ironying either.

[:D]

[btw--what would a metawhore be?]

Well, back to the fallacying. Or Conservativing. Or wherever this thing is wandering.
