I suspect they will now opt out of healtcare reform, and the state grounds will become a tent city for the teabaggers.

you liberal swine should run, this is a massive victory for the neo-cons, they are sending a clear message that the neo-cons shall rise again and you are running scared and you are afraid to admit how right they are and that they will throw NY under the bus in order to have Trenton, NJ to hearken back to George Washington, or something....c'mon you guys you know the drill..

Political Pettifog. (Yeah, balancing is all it is) Republicans are states rights people so make them governors to look out for states rights.......but don't let the republicans in federal governments, they bankrupt them.

A Conservative and a Republican are splitting the votes there ken. And it was only a Republican district because the Republican there was a Rino.

For a true Conservative to make such a strong showing in NY-23 is comforting to me. Its a strong statement in opposition to Liberals everywhere, and one that needed to be made.

I'll go even further than that - Bush is a Liberal in my opinion, and so is McCain, and thats exactly why McCain lost. I'm much more Conservative than either of them and I think we're going to find out that a lot of people are in 2010.  Obama is pushing the country back towards center, a place he knows absolutely nothing about.

Which was my point on other threads.

You are dividing your own party into conservatives and the so-called rinos.

How can you possibly think that is strengthening the GOP?

well, it looks like getting two sides to try and talk to each other, if there is ANY common ground will find their center.

I am fascinated by this new ploy rino (rhino, a large unruly animal not so different than prehistoric) and neo-cons are shoving conservative centrists into the rhino catagory.........

even old bill buckley couldn't talk his way outta that clusterfuck.

Why do you think anyone should swear by a political party if it abandons them. Its not about party affiliation, its about ideology. The GOP can rot for all I care if they fail to represent my ideals.

and is exactly the reason why a return to conservative values by the GOP will strengthen it. The US is still right of centerfiscally and on national defense which is where the GOP needs to be to represent a conservative base

MarsBonfire -> RE: Change it back! (11/4/2009 2:46:32 PM)

Actually, the NY 23rd fight didn't split the vote. The republican pulled out. That means it was between the Dem and the teabagger/Glenn Beck cocksucker. It was never in much doubt that the residents of that district didn't go for the last minute, far right wing wingnut. No one knew much of anything about the little creep, and what they did hear "I worship Glenn Beck, and subscribe to the sixty values and the nine whatevers that he made up on his show."  ... didn't do much to inspire confidence in a candidate that was obviously a carpetbagger.

The GOP held power through Conservatism for quite some time. and very recently.

What makes you so sure it can't do it again?

Because it has gone beyond conservatism into far-right radicalism.

MarsBonfire -> RE: Change it back! (11/4/2009 3:05:55 PM)

Well, let's see...

You guys started two wars...
you crashed the economy
you tortured people
you created several gulags
you let an American city drown
you ignored the warnings about 9/11
you passed the defense of marriage act
you bugged everyone's phones
you passed PATRIOT I
you passed PATRIOT II
you created "free speech zones"
your last Pres spent 60% of his time in office on vacation
you tried to politisize the supreme courts

should I go on?

You guys shit in your own nest. Now you are all dieing out, as the cancerous cells take over, kicking out the healthy moderate members of your party. You get what you deserve.

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Change it back! (11/4/2009 3:23:35 PM)

First you are wrong, it isn't far right radicalism at all. Overall the GOP is left of where it was 20 years ago and has plenty of room to move further right. Second, what do you think will play better even if you were correct, the far left radicalism that is obviously the platform of the dems or the "far right" GOP? If you think it's the former you're delusional. Obama had to try and hide it to get elected and throw his radical associates utb. He can't fool the indies again.

Well Duh! Sanity of course your a radical....certainly ,given your brand of conservatism you couldn't lay claim to being mainstream?
Now feel free to "fire a shot across my bow" and label me a radical liberal...its all cool.

Sanity -> RE: Change it back! (11/4/2009 4:21:57 PM)

It looks as though the mainstream may be jumping its banks mike, thats the whole point of the thread. You may be the "radical" tomorrow... [:D]

Not according to these excerpts from The New York Times:

quote:

Samuel S. Stratton, 73, Former Congressman, Dies

Despite several redistrictings in a predominantly Republican area, he was returned to Congress with ease every two years and became dean of the New York delegation in January 1979. At his retirement, Mr. Stratton represented the 23d District.

A Democrat whose hawkish views often put him at odds with his party, Mr. Stratton devoted his Congressional career to strengthening the nation's defense system. He strongly supported the American war effort in Vietnam and proposed increased spending for new weapons systems like the B-1 bomber, the MX missile and the neutron bomb.

Actually this will be the first time since 1871 that that geographic area has beenrepresented in Congress by a non Republican. That's got to be considered a safe seat by any standard. McHugh's margin's of victory had been on the order of 20+ points.

This was about the national GOP brand and the far right lost.

You won't support any party or politician who doesn't share your ideology? You mean you won't throw your support to anyone who's entire agenda isn't whining about how awful the democrats are and how badly the right wing has been treated by the evil left? Let me know how that works out for you.

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Change it back! (11/4/2009 4:45:10 PM)

Picky picky picky. What's a mere 100 years or so when you're desperate to make a point.

Do some research before calling me a liar.

The present 23rd district is not the same geographical region as it was in the 70's. In 1979 the 23rd was in parts of NYC and LI. Now its an upstate district. You of course probably knew this and decided to try and impugn my honesty anyway.
