Most newer keyboards (especially the soft touch non clickity clacks) you can also pry off the keys with something (butterknife works pretty well), and clean under there as well.

Very quick keyboard repair manual.
If powered by batteries remove them.
Take a picture of the keyboard before you start and print it out. Prevent you from sitting try to figure out where they all came from.
Take a longnose plier and pull gently on the keyes one by one. Most keyboards they just pull up and slip.
When every key is out turn the keyboard around and undo every screw you see.
Pull the plastic apart.
Take allt the plastic parts and put in the strainer in the dishwasher and run a cycle.
Vacuum the electronics and remove eventual visible dirt. Stuff like dried up coke mixed with cigaret ash takes a litle doing.
Make sure it is absolute dry before assembling it.
Make sure that all movable parts move freely. Specially those ones operating the spacebar. They are a trouble place for all keyboards.
Assemble in reverse order of dismantling.
I can do it on Logitech cordless with less than 1 hours labour. Takes a few hours because you gotta let it dry.
If it still don't function trow in the garbage and take the spare out of the cupboard.
I also always keep one or two of the very cheap old style PS1 connected keyboards. They also come in handy if the machine has start up problem and you need to access the bios setup. Can't be done with USB or anything like that as anything like USB is software driven. The old PS1 is pure hardware.

I like lap tops- I had been into desk- but when I moved- I find myself wanting to be at different areas of the house - so a laptop is now my preferred unit.

I am hard on a computer. I use mine alot. I wear it out. This means too the keyboard. With a desktop replacing a keyboard is easy. But a laptop- I dont see an easy way to replace it.

This is maybe a year old.

I could maybe clean it more often....
