I like a balance - at least a couple of shared interests, being supportive of the unshared interests (ask how it's going, maybe come spectate, perhaps even giving it a try if it seems like it might be fun), but not feeling like you must be Siamese twins and do *everything* together. Sometimes hobbies mesh well. For example, my Master enjoys photography, so he came and took photos and video of one of my gymnastics practices and my competition. He sometimes helps me with my stretches, as I get better range of motion with help, and occasionally he incorporates it into play, but he's not really interested in doing gymnastics himself. If he were bored watching, I certainly wouldn't expect him to come, or would at least encourage him to bring his computer or a book so that he could be occupied when I wasn't actually performing. One of his other hobbies is physics/electronics experiments. I have some background in that general area, but wasn't familiar with some of the specific areas he was exploring. He gave me a brief explanation, and I've read up a bit on those specific topics so that I can discuss them with him more freely, but I'm not planning to get a bunch of equipment and make my own set-up for it. Back when I was looking, at least *some* compatibility in this area was pretty important to me. I get bored just sitting around watching TV.
