ORIGINAL: BoiJen ...the military somehow rationalizes how the American military force would be compromised if homosexuals and bisexuals were allowed to be out about who they're fucking despite that other western nations can do this without an ounce of harm coming to their military's morale... The Sacred Band of Thebes seems to have had high morale. But that was a long time ago, and they were Greeks, so I suppose one could argue about the current applicability. There's a lot of evidence that the Navy has always been somewhat tolerant of homosexual acts, especially at sea. During World War II and other periods of severe manpower needs, the armed forces in general have been lax in enforcement of "sodomy" laws. If the United States should ever restore the draft, the military would be forced to face a fundamental dilemma. Many young men avoided conscription during the Vietnam War by claiming, falsely or truly, to be gay. At that time, homosexuality still carried a heavy social stigma, so few were willing to make that claim, even to avoid the draft. Today, that stigma is much lighter, especially among young persons. It's likely the military would be forced to choose between having a draft and excluding homosexuals
