Status: offline 		I am probably as disappointed with Obama's performance as Panda.  However, there simply is no one else to vote for.  So I will end up voting for a man who I feel is a conservative at heart and/or has no killer instinct. And, he has one other redeeming trait:  I believe him to be basically honest as compared with republicans.

I have no time for people who desire sweeping changes, as sweeping changes have a habit of unbalancing other things. If Obama turns out to be this kind of politician, then the US should be thankful.

Sheesh, didn't they say that about Carter? And look what happened to him!

I'm still waiting for the "Change." If you look at what Obama has done so far he looks absolutely "REPUBLICAN!"

With things so messed up in so many areas I believe he has to try to fix some problems.
Last night I was watching Warren Buffet and when asked whether Wall Street should be punished he had a good number of financial penalties he would impose.  Then, he seemed to pause for a second and opined that "I guess I wouldn't just shoot them all."  I would consider it.  They have taken taxpayer money or guarantees and are again paying themselves for the dandy jobs they are doing.

Status: offline 		As the banking bailout bubbled up after the election, I knew this was Obama's agenda going up in smoke, as getting it down would now be nearly impossible, and all before he even took office in January.

I'm glad that health care didn't die. It must be addressed--the status quo is unsustainable.

He is doing what he said regarding the wars...scaling down Iraq and going into Afghanistan. I hope he gets it right, and I don't think anyone knows what that might be. The truth probably is that its a clusterfuck no matter what. I do like that he's one of the few who warned against the war, and that he's not pushing it off now, but taking responsibility. I like that he takes time to think it through with his advisors and the military people. Time will tell.

It's no surprise that the economy is a mess, nor that it will be for a while yet. I think he gets it, and as unpopular as stimulus might be just now, in the short run, that may have to happen before we can move ahead again with both a growing economy (GDP and productivity are already up, 3.5% and 9% currently) and a job market ready to hire again--this commonly lags, but of course that's an obvious burden for those unemployed. Jobless benefits have been extended, and since businesses can't stay productive with only cost cutting for more than a quarter or two, jobs should start coming back next year.

I know the politics and ambitions and so forth bother some of you. I just consider that par for the course. Unambitious people don't run for President. At least this one isn't full of arrogant bluster.

I'd like to see more, sure. But I get why things are slow, I'll be looking to see signs of things picking up.

Among other things, everything from everyone this year will be about the Congressional election. Progress happens on the margin. Always does.

They paid him to get the job and he rewards them handsomely and unending.

I spent my hours and my money supporting him.  The war still has no end in site and healthcare has not been fixed.  I am confident both(especially healthcare) will be addressed however innocent people are still dying.

I am also disgusted about how he is bending over backwards to kiss republican ass or rally their support.  At least Bush had the balls to not care what anyone in the country thought.

I was watching a movie the other day, an great old comedy called "Those Magnificent Young Men in Their Flying Machines." There was this great running gag in the film that the place for these early pilots to ditch, when they had mechanical problems, was a sewage farm nearby... They woulf set out, with gran plans and hopes for success, but something would go wrong and they would have to crash into this pond of raw sewage.

What a perfect metaphor for what's been happening in Washington, I thought!

Obama gets elected, has a great agenda of new ideas, but then something goes wrong... the problems and disasters of the Bush administration foul his engine.... and he has to go crashing down in the Bush/Cheany sewage...

Sadly, I think his presidency will be sharply stunted, just trying to take care of all the problems that the previous administration left for him to clean up.

Funny, isn't it? Clinton left us with the best US economy since the end of WWII, and Bush left us with a near worldwide great depression.... and in less than a year, the Obama admin has gotten us to a "green shoots" situation... and we can all still cash our paychecks...

He'll never get the credit he deserves, but I think the guy is doing an amazing job, considering how much he's being sandbagged by the GOP (aka "the party of NO")

Status: offline 		Year one is going pretty much as I had expected. He was swept into office on this big wave of emotion and change but really doesn't have much to show for it. Most of the folks who were out of work on inauguration day are still unemployed. Cap and trade is stalled. Health care reform may pass in some fashion but it will take years to determine if it was a mistake or not. I think his administration will take an upswing if the Republicans do well in the mid term elections. Clinton's presidency is widely looked upon as pretty fruitful but after 1994 he was signing things that Newt sent to his desk.

Status: offline 		In all it's what I expected as far as political choices. I must admit that many of his own party bucking his agenda is a suprise as the voice of the people growing louder by the day.

If you voted for him and you knew his position on abortion to begin with, which is basically that he considers abortion as a valid method of birth control, then you are just as guilty as the Dr.s who perform abortions.

By the way democrats in general believe, and Nancy Pelosi basically admitted on national tv that she considered abortion a better alternative to population control than enforcing our immigration laws. I saw it myself. Perhaps it's because dead unborn children don't vote, but they hope Illegal aliens eventually will?

Neither party represents "we the people", so the question of bipartisanship is misleading.

This is not a democracy. Most political scientists do not consider America a democracy. Democracy cannot exist without a fair and decent distribution of resources, including free time to engage in political matters.

One of my biggest fears with Obama's election was that if he didn't do really well he would set back the positive social agenda of America about 100 years.

While the jury is still out, it is looking less than favorable.

Please provide some link or citation or some evidence of this. If it is true, it is disturbing (while I am very pro choice I do not view it as a birth control method). If it's an out and out lie, well then it's just par for the course for the anti-choice movement.

Spinner, I suspect there is no truth to this and that it's yet one more exaggeration made by someone who is obviously violently opposed to abortion. Personally I think the comparison to Hitler is vile and disgusting.
