Abortion comments!!!! I'm sure there is a Extremely small amount of Women here; that would carry a baby of a Man that RAPED them and keep the baby. If so, please let's have a TOPIC of that.....

Somebody said the above on another thread so I was wondering is there anyone who would have the baby? I think it's very unlikely. Oh well, he wanted a topic on this subject so any comments?

It's a facile point, but he probably isn't wrong. I have noticed that it tends to be men who are rabidly opposed to women's birth control rights.

I think there are plenty of women who WOULD have that baby. I can't say what I would do. I have never been in that situation. I believe in reproductive freedom. But since I have never been pregnant myself, the idea of "choice" is abstract to me. Because I have never been forced to make that choice. I think its a horrible situation to have been raped and then on top of it to be pregnant. My first instinct would be to abort it. But again, having never been in that situation, I can't say for sure.

I would likely keep the baby, as I am unable at this time, to come up with a reason that follows my 'purpose', not to.

I actually just had this discussion with a few women last week including my adult daughter. We were watching the news about abortion rights and it turned into a conversation.

Each one of the women said they would keep the baby since they are all vehemently opposed to abortion in any way at all.

I was the only dissenting one among the four of us.

So you see there are women who would keep it and probably more than what one would think especially in areas where people are ultra conservatives.

Well define rape? Just joking, but i have "raped" quite a few women in my time. They thanked me afterwards, so because of the nature of the forum i just had to put that in.
In the normal sense i would hate to see a woman keep that baby. Both for her and for the babys sake. Just to think, that she has to look at the result of probably the most traumatic episode in her life for the rest of hers. I wouldn't blame her if she grew to hate it. It simply sounds like a total recipee for screewing up to lives. Well if she is prolife i would certainly recommend adoption at first given opportunity. But that has a lot of consequences for the woman as well. I have known women who way back had to do it in the days where single motherhood was a mortal sin. Every single one of them have a story of regret. Abortion also do give emotional problems, but compared to carrying a baby for 9 months and then never see it again, they are quite minor.

I couldnt carry a product of rape, but Im not gonna diss anyone who would do either choice,  because their emotions, their reasons are their business. NO ONE ELSES
My reasons are mine and no one can convince me Im wrong.

i absolutely would carry it. i wouldn't end a life, just because some asshole raped me. To me that just makes zero sense.

I wonder (now I don't believe I should have any say in what anybody does with or to their body) if the same woman who would choose to keep the baby, would also be open to the parental rights of said rapist.  Now I am not in favor of this, however I believe this has occurred in recent years.  It is a sad fact that a rape conviction, is not a very long sentence so it is very possible the person could be out in a few years and demand to see their child

Thats messed up. I never thought of that. I'm sure that the nature of the pregnancy and a conviction for rape (if she reported it and he was found guilty) would be grounds for the mother to get an order of protection for both herself and the baby. Even men who were happily married at one time and them became abusive are denied visitation. All the mother has to do is prove to a judge that the father is a threat to the child's safety.

I think the question as asked is slighted.  At this time, all the women who respond have the LEGAL right to make whatever choice they want. 

Now if the GOP and the Nuts on the far right get their way how would women feel if the laws said "You Have NO Choice, You Will Have That Baby we don't care if you where raped.

I think there are many women who would keep a baby that was concieved during a rape.  A man can have no idea what it feels like to be pregnant.  The baby is not the rapists, he only provided half the genetic marterials.  Most mothers will tell you they formed an emotional bond to their baby long before it was born.

I personally dislike that it is primarily men who want to restrict the reproductive rights of women. 

I believe a child has the right to be born into loving and nuturing circumstances.  I feel that giving birth for no other reason than to not be called a murderer is a poor reason to bring a child into the world.  I will never forget the USA Today story of a mother convicted of murder of her 3-year old.  The child had been born crack-addicted, had been taken away by DSS once but returned.  The child died as a result of the internal damage from being impailed on an adult man's penis when the mother turned the 3-year old over for a hit of crack.  To me, this is not the life the child had a right to.  Right to life advocates care nothing about what happens after birth.  I believe it would have been far more humane an act to have aborted the child than subject it to such a horrible short life.

At the same time, I don't feel I have the right to tell the mother she must have an abortion as much as I personally would like to see abortion mandatory for all women who are drug abusers during their pregnancy.  I don't think that would be really a great idea, a better idea would be better follow-up on DSS cases.  Sadly, there are no easy answers.

All this to say, I respect the rights and views of women who would never end a pregnancy and I respect the rights of women who choose to end their pregnancy.  I do NOT support late-term abortions.  Technology exists for a woman to know she is pregnant within days of missing her period.  If you change your mind about keeping your baby after the first 4 months of pregnancy, start contacting adoption services.  That's my view.

it is difficult for me to say this, but for me rape is the secondary issue. Primary is the womans view on the right/wrong of abortion.

I always find it very offensive that the right leaning religious types who are so rabidly opposed to abortion are also opposed to contraception and sex education as well. Rape is obviously a special and abominable case, but there'd be a lot less teenage pregnancies is the kids were better informed and able to protect themselves.
They're also, of course, opposed to providing any kind of Federal help in rearing the unwanted kids that they insist must be brought to term which is completely abominable.

I only see that I have a responsibility toward making a decision for myself on such a matter. I wouldn’t advise anyone to believe they should believe differently of themselves.

But the point is, you are able to make that choice today, If you choose to have the baby so be it.  It is your choice, but what about the people who do not want to have the baby, their are those who wish to take their legal right to choose away and force them to deliver a baby they did not agree to conceive.
