switch2please -> RE: China called.... (11/19/2009 1:09:38 PM)

China is most certainly NOT a communist state anymore. They have excelled in the conversion to capitalism, and the government is far from the socialist ideal.

I don't understand the issue with public healthcare reform based on a socialist model. It's only fitting; it is meant to help provide coverage for the majority of the uninsured, and what political ideology is more focused on the wellbeing of the people than socialism? The system works well in Europe, usually in more liberal countries, but even England has public (free) health care and the people taking advantage of it are certainly benefiting from it. Their example gives proof that public health care can be a viable option in a capitalist democratic republic like the United States; I would hardly recognize the UK as a communist entity. If for whatever reason I get very ill, I will be on the first plane overseas. Our public healthcare reform is not even offering free health care, it's trying to subsidize health insurance, but even that is a step in the right direction.

It may not be the best fiscal decision, but I have to agree with a previous poster: the health of our country should be worth spending money on.
That's just the way I prole....

What elements of democracy do you see woody?

I do not see a single one. and am very curious as to what you do?

How do you not see a dictatorship of the Party?

DCWoody -> RE: China called.... (11/19/2009 1:27:05 PM)

I tend to think of a dictatorship as being one guy....okay, in reality an army and leading group of people, but ultimately, one guy at the top.....not just any non-democratic system, monarchy isn't dictatorship for example....it's just semantics, but semantics is what we're talking....

Hu didn't seize power, he was elected, by....whatever it is they call their parliament.....which was elected, ultimately....by the people.

And he made a point of treating the people right while he in power?

luckydawg -> RE: China called.... (11/19/2009 3:45:59 PM)

DC woody, that is a perfect example of falling for the propaganda.

Hu, was chosen by the party.

which is not eleted by the people.

You are simply incorrect.

Neither Hitler nor Mussolini siezed power, either. So I have a hard time accepting a definition of facism that discounts Hitler and Mussolini

DCWoody -> RE: China called.... (11/19/2009 5:01:52 PM)

Feel free to correct me dawg, but I am under the impression Hu was chosen by the Chinese parliament....which, while indeed dominated by the communist party....is an elected body. If you can't see elements of democracy in a nation which holds as many elections as china, you're not looking.

The hitler comparison falls flat, look it up.
And I'll ask again, how much chinese propaganda do you think I've ever seen or heard?

willbeurdaddy -> RE: China called.... (11/19/2009 5:11:52 PM)

A one part democracy isnt.

DCWoody -> RE: China called.... (11/19/2009 5:17:05 PM)

Just to note will, I'm not trying to claim that china is a democracy....certainly not a free and fair one, but that it's not far off. Even the CCPs hold on the system could be losed if a party got popular enough to win a majority of seats in the bottom level.

luckydawg -> RE: China called.... (11/19/2009 6:39:09 PM)

DC woody, perhaps you are confusing the Republic of China (Taiwan) with the Peoples Republic of China(China). Beacause what you wrote is nonsense.

Power within the government of the People's Republic of China is divided among three bodies: the Communist Party of China, the state, and the People's Liberation Army. This article is concerned with the formal structure of the state, its departments and their responsibilities. Most, but not all, positions of significant power in the state structure and in the army are occupied by members of the Communist Party of China which is controlled by the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China, a group of 4 to 9 people, usually all older men, who make all decisions of national significance. As the role of the Army is to enforce these decisions in times of crisis, support of the PLA is important.

To pretend that one party elections in a controlled media enviroment is Democracy of any sort is nonsense, plain and simple.

DCWoody -> RE: China called.... (11/19/2009 6:44:02 PM)

I give up on this.

luckydawg -> RE: China called.... (11/19/2009 6:47:32 PM)

That is because you are flat out wrong, and not man enough to own up to it.

DCWoody -> RE: China called.... (11/19/2009 6:48:53 PM)

Sure man, China is a facist state and doesn't have any elements of democracy at all.

It has the same elements of democracy that Italy had when it "elected" the National Facist Party and Mussolini. There are no "pure" forms of government anywhere, but China is currently as close to facist as it comes.

Last I heard Red China has the USA by the balls, so
cheers!
Ain't all this globalization, extensive free trade agreements, and dependence on other countries great?
Red China is our good, good friend.

as in all symbiotic relationships, the ball grabbing is mutual...in fact our grip is far tighter right now. That will become less true if Obama succeeds in remaking us in his vision.
