i'm curious if you guys starting poking fun at this thread because it was me the posted it, or if it was just because Bible was in the title? (some people can't seem to resist the urge to belittle that.) i just wonder if i am doing something that invites this....or if its just that its anything Bible/Christian?

I didn't think I was poking fun as much as adding on to the cultural references. I realize you have a link, but "Why the Bible?" is a pretty broad subject and I think some posters answered that question without reference to the video.

Why the Bible?
Some may agree, some may not, i found it interesting so i thought i'd share.

What an amazing amount of misdirection and faulty logic, though he does like to use impressive words, which I'm sure sways his audiences.

i'd be interested to hear what in paticular you mean. what of his comments were "faulty logic" and in what way was he trying to "misdirect"?

Sorry, colloquialism. It just means my words were not intended to be taken as impassioned criticism. Your use of two question marks made me think that you were defensive and thought I was being more critical than I intended to be.

I don't know that it necessarily means that to everyone, that's just how I read it.

Lol. Just don't want to be mistaken for asserting something as a rule rather than an impression.

i don't understand? Are you saying asking for clarity was being defensive? Could i have worded my question differently so i wouldn't have come across that way?

No, breatheasone, i hope no one is poking fun or making cultural references because it was posted by you. I watched the video as a non-believer and i found much to criticise in the preacher's assumptions. But i do not really wish to get into a debate about it here.

My question to you is this.... i wonder if you as a devout believer look at any of the videos posted by the NBs. We all have a tendency, believes and nonbelievers alike, to read and watch only those things which lend support and comfort to our own positions.

Two video replies have been posted that although presented by comedians of note do contain some serious criticisms of religion and Christianity and of the Bible especially. I refer you to the post by musicmystery and to the post i made with a link to George Carlin.

You have asked us to look and comment upon your understandably cherished video. I did so even though the title was uninviting and i am admittedly biased against what i found. Have you in turn looked at the videos which challenge your position?

Yes i do, but when someone puts up a music video, or a comedian i tend to take it how it was intended. i never claimed i cherrished any video or the other....not sure where that conjecture came from.
Edited to add: As for the title, it is the name of the video so that is what i used, not knowing what else to call it?(one question mark)

I have no criticism of the title. It is what it is. You need not apologize.

Both of these comedians Penn/Teller and George Carlin are quite serious in their criticisms. The fact that they entertain should not be used as an excuse to write them off. The entertainment is another way to get people to pay attention, just as preachers have been known to entertain.

In any event, i am happy to learn you have the courage to observe opposing views. Good luck to you.

vincent

I have posted a few 'religious' threads and all of them have had really great responses.  I don't believe it's you.  I don't believe it's religion.  I do believe it's because the post didn't (originally) open up any kind of debate, it was sharing but there wasn't really any question. Candy, I am not trying to tell you what to do, but maybe if you had opened up the discussion more, rather than just offering to share, you might get more indepth responses?  It's an idea thrown in there anyhoo... take or leave it.
