It'll be Obama's election to lose.
If he tries another "amnesty" on illegals we'll *know* he's in the pockets of big business ala Bush.
Then there's the economy, bailing out big corporations isn't exactly part of the democratic platform.
And if we're still in Iraq and Afganistan that's another liability.
Has anyone heard President Obama utter the word, "Change" in the last six months? What happened?

Obama's got a rough row to hoe in '12. His weaknesses:

Being too centerist. The right wing thinks he's too far to the left and the left think he's too far to the right. The only thing the two sides can agree on is Obama is too far to the "other side". governing to the right of George Soros doesnt make you centrist. and if he thought he could get away with it he'd be even further left

A bad time to be president: There are a lot of long term problems that have come to a head in this time. This was good for him when he was running as a candidate. It's bad for him running for re-election as president. There is a long pattern of "throw the bastards out" sentiment that occurs in the country when things go wrong. We have come a long way from "Don't switch horses in mid stream" and it's much more "If you can't fire the team, fire the coach."indeed, the timing was impeccable for his election. If the financial crisis had hit before Palin was selected he would not have been able to hide behind bullshit about McCains life expectancy.

Expectations vs. Reality: A lot of people expected a lot of things from Obama. They expected that he would fix the economy, end both wars we are currently waging, re regulate the banking industry and take a walk across the white house swimming pool while he was at it. We are all discovering that this isn't the case. The things he's done right look small compared to expectations and the stuff he's done wrong loom large. actually his weakness here is his narcissism. he actually thought he could pull this stuff off

However, he does still have some significant strengths:

People still like him: A great percentage of those who don't like his policies still like him. Likability counts for a lot in a world where one of the poll numbers people pay attention to is "which candidate would you rather have a beer with". dropping every day

He has time: The election is in 2012. He still has three years to put some things together. Despite our appetite for immediate gratification, there is inertia that has to be overcome in making any change. He has two years left for the economy to show noticeable improvement, to draw down the wars and to come up with some actual tangible results to his more diplomatic foreign policy. time, and the possbility of being reigned in if there is a shift in the Senate in 2010 that saves him from himself

The 2010 elections: I think that there are going to be a lot of seats changing hands in this upcoming election. This will rob the GOP of their case that everything is the democrats fault because they are under represented. After voting them in, the people are going to want some ideas other than "just say no". The polls already indicate that people view the republicans as obstructionist and this view will only increase if they pick up seats and power and fail to come up with some new, reasonable ideas.

The opposition candidate: There is a huge difference between the question "Do you want to vote for X?" and "Would you rather vote for X or Y?". If the republicans continue to put up presidential candidates that pander to the farthest right wing of their party, it gives Obama a firm advantage. If they have a bloody primary war between Palin and a more moderate republican it gives a strong advantage to Obama. If they give it to someone who continues to use "cutting taxes" as a manta designed to settle everything, it gives Obama an advantage. Elections are turned by independents. After the taxes that will be required to support Obamas policies become clear, "cutting taxes" will be a sufficient mantra to boot his ass out

So, while I have no doubt that we're not going to see the same mandate for Obama that we saw in the last election, I would say it's far too soon to count him out yet.yup, miracles do happen

FR -

From The Los Angelas Times:

quote:

Sarah Palin vs. Barack Obama: The approval gap silently shrinks to a few points

Not that it matters politically because obviously she's a female Republican dunce and he's obviously a male Democrat genius.

But Sarah Palin's poll numbers are strengthening.

And President Obama's are sliding.

Guess what? They're about to meet in the 40s.

Depending, of course, on which recent set of numbers you peruse and how the questions are phrased, 307 days into his allotted 1,461 the 44th president's approval rating among Americans has slid to 49% or 48%, showing no popularity bounce from his many happy trips, foreign and domestic.

Riding the wave of immense publicity and symbiotic media interest over her new book, "Going Rogue," and the accompanying promotional tour, Palin's favorable ratings are now at 43%, according to ABC. That's up from 40% in July.

One poll even gives her a 47% favorable.

The numbers have been pretty clear for a while. America really likes Sarah Palin, but doesn't think she should be president. The hatred shown by some on here, is way out of the mainstream.

Firstly, I represent NO political party...I am a Liberterian that is done with the Replublican party..... now, show me where the teachings of Marx have succeeded anywhere in the world....anywhere?...thought so...  We have a government class that has drained the wealth from our society, and burdened us with a mountain of debt and continues doing the same thing.... There are dark storm clouds gathering on the horizon and the hurricane flags are up....there is rolling thunder of anger building thru the heatland that IS going to manifest itself squarely in the shape and future of what is/or is not going to be....  With over 12 TRILLION dollars as a present debt...and with estimates of another 17 TRILLION of Soical Security and Medicare liabilities due to impact in the next decade, ....along with Obama's stooges cranking the printing presses to increase the money supply by over 130% as world economies are dumping the dollar daily, we are heading to a cliff.....  Even if we taxed the Fortune 500 companies 100% for the next century, we would not be close to paying the debt down..... and this idiot administration wants another stimulus package along with MORE tax increases on the 'wealthy' to fuel his throwing money to those that support his socialist regime...... He entertains his hollywood ilk along with the usual communist suspects in the rose garden as the troops in Afghanasthan try to survive..... and you wonder WHY we are angry?  Christans are vilified by a bunch of urban scum on a daily basis, and the lame ass media lies in unison..... the newspapers are surpassing Pravda as a propaganda rag, ...and screaming Racism at every opportunity.......   Bud the party is about to end....  I have no idea of what is to be....but I know a bad moon is rising....  Sarah Palin is a gal from the heartland that spoke her mind, and the left has savaged her unlike anything I have witnessed.....  and that brings the water to a full boil................ I think that the left has no idea that this tide is building and chooses to marginalize and dismiss it..... but that will be like trying to ignore a Cat 5 hurricane....  1861 happened...and it can happen again..... but one thing for certain....the government party is over.....its time to call in the dogs and piss on the fire of the Keynesian philosphy...as well as the Marxist philosphy..... free enterprise built the largest standard of living the world has ever seen, and those that have worked hard and succeeded will take the game elsewhere if this continues..... and a darkness will fall over this land like your worst nightmare.....if that is what you wish...then just continue to think as you do..... just don't be surprise when the storm comes out of the night.....you havn't seen bad yet, but its coming....  its time to embrace that which works.... Sarah Palin's book is doing very well. 700,000 copies sold in the first week. An order for an additional 2.5 million copies is in the works.

If you seriously think that you have marxists in the government in America, I doubt that even the Republicans would have you, sweetie. I'm sure they were happy to have you voting for Bush twice, though. Always find it hilarious the way Libertarians were happy to vote for somebody who's done more to extend government powers than anybody since Kennedy, but throw a shit fit the second a mulatto gets elected and carries on in the same way...
