OP, I would advise against copy-and-paste correspondence, or anything overtly rude, or boring. If you can convincingly pretend you're interested, we like that. If it's genuine, even better. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't want to hear about your little gay dog. If it bounces when it barks, it's not a real dog - it's a bite-sized snack for mine.
I use a word in my profile that should be used in the first message, to ensure that anyone contacting me is actually interested enough to read what I've written...and not just distracted by the pretty profile picture. Though I don't think it's the norm, I've stumbled across a few other profiles that use this method as well. I do respond to some messages that overlook this, but using that key word definitely gets extra points. And if whoever you're perving on put any time into their profile, you already know what they're into, woo hoo! If you don't view their full profile, you will not show up in the 'Who's Viewing Me' section (accessed by a button on the panel at the far left of the CM interface). Any messages claiming to have enjoyed my profile from users who don't appear on this list are deleted immediately. If they don't have the effort to lie convincingly, I won't bother to waste the energy replying...unless I'm feeling bitchy and vengeful and want to take it out on someone :) A couple of my favorites are posted in my journal.
