Smiles.... we do get somethings right down here....But all kidding aside.. sorry to see of recent heart attack.. I do hope recovery has been good for you and continues to do so.

Thank you for seeing that all though there may be some flaws... bad history... etc... you show that you and others can look past that... and see what is here now... not just what was.. over 100 years ago. And that' 99.9% of the people you meet here... wasn't alive nor at fault for what happened then. Only for the BS now. (Ok, I got issues with our State Goverment right now... lol.. won't go there though) Thank you again UtopianRanger.

There's alot of fun, fantastic things about ANY state you go to. Each and every state as with other countries.. have their own history.... alot of it .. is really screwed up history. But also.. some positive history as well.

As generations come and go... history is what we live... and learn from. Some do not always learn what others do. But we learn to not over look, but help others see that not everyones perfect....not everyones the same.... and this is what makes us all who we are.

The wars that are going on now... all over the place... are because people are trying to hold on to what they consider to be them. Their way of life, their history, their religion, they beliefs... and here comes someone else.. going to come in there and tell them they're wrong. They need to do this... think this way... pray that way.. do not allow this to go on no more... etc... and no i'm not just refering to the US over in Iraq. There's always some type of poilitcal war, religious war, land war, etc... going on somewhere. Granted it would be nice to see it all end... but at what point? At what cost? So that everyone is exactly the same as another? Thinks exactly as another? Dresses the same? Eats the same?

Life is good.... all one has to do is stop being angry all the time.... go outside.. take a look around... see where they are..... what they are...... ALIVE..... and be happy.

Hmmm - i was with you completely until your last statement, which came across as rudely as what you seem to be complaining about.

Dignity and respect in our culture, in general, are missing ingredients to a society we once knew. i, for one, seek to reinstall it; if only one person at a time.

i think the best thing to think about anyone insulting and disrespectful is this is who THEY are and it has nothing at all to do with who or what they're gripping about.

That's one advantage of Florida. We don't have any history. Our "historic buildings" were built in the forties and fifties. When people talk "before the war" they may mean WWII, but it's possible they mean Vietnam.

OK, that may be a slight exaggeration.

Well, 1640's, maybe, if you're talking about St. Augustine.

Of course Florida has a history. Every place has a history. We just have a way of destroying every last trace of the local history whenever we conquer a place.

I was born in Duval County Jacksonville Fla... I damn well know Fla has history... and it's not Just St Augustine.....

And I actually agree with LaM on this one. History gets destroyed.... but it's still there... if one wants to actually look for it.

Hell, that's not Florida. That's Greater Georgia. Just ask anyone from Atlanta. Florida really begins where the land tends to squish under your feet.

At least we can still talk about that. Given the recent re-classification of documents, had it been during a Republican administration, it would probably be top secret now.

For a lot of people around here, Florida history began with the invention of DDT and air conditioning.

I went to vote today and my precinct's base is in an "historic building," a country club built in 1950.

Yeah John.... sorry to hear about the bum ticker. Something tells me that the women, instead of the good barbecue, are more likely the root cause ; }

I calls em' as I sees them. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of your part of the south, is the last night of my last trip there.... I was with a group of nearly twenty people.... we all went to the famous ''Dillard House'' in North Georgia {This is the legendary restaurant were ''Deliverance'' was filmed - A stones throw from Chattooga River}

The place was packed, there was a mixed crowd, whites, blacks , orientals, etc. The place was bangin'! Everyone was eating, telling stories and having a good time - That's all I remember.[;)]

Oh gawd, please don't even mention the F state. I still love it here, for the most part, but, sometimes I think it's nickname should really be the f me state instead of the sunshine state. And no I ain't taking my black arse back to NY. I can take the heat in more ways than one. [:D]

I've cut down on the sex... I no longer think about it as much. Didn't want to cut down on the doing it, although.

Yup, Florida, Arizona, even Utah and in some cases Alaska. All are places to store the old, it all depends on where the kids live and how well they were raised.
