BKSir -> Your Favorite Holiday Song (11/23/2009 2:07:24 PM)

I would love to know.  Links if possible would be awesome too. :)  There's so much out there aside from the old standards that not many people think about.  Not that there's anything wrong with the old standards either.  Come on, Burl Ives or Bing Crosby?  I couldn't even begin to imagine the season without them.

So, be they old or new, remixes or covers, serious or silly, whatever.  What's your favorite holiday song(s)?

Mine are, in no particular order:  1  2   3

Lucylastic -> RE: Your Favorite Holiday Song (11/23/2009 2:52:59 PM)

I cant believe Im admitting to this
This  one has always been a favourite since it came out and  it is one that will get me in the mood for the holidays quicker than anything
This one still makes me cry, and looking at the vid, I have a tear remembering ....
No one does it like Eartha
English one again, Kim Wilde and Mel Smith (Deck your balls with boughs of holly)
and altho these arent all..this one is and always will be for me the epitomy of christmas songs, altho I like the "holiday inn" version better.
Is it christmas yet?????

BKSir -> RE: Your Favorite Holiday Song (11/23/2009 3:28:27 PM)

I miss Eartha. :(  Funny thing is, she died christmas day of 2007.  Figures.  I don't think she died actually.  I think santa finally granted her wishes and she ran off with the ol' feller.  Santa needed some 'special elves'. ;)

EDIT:  Don't worry, I love the others too. [:D]  Especially Slade.  God they were an odd bunch.

WOW !! I haven't seen the Band Aid video in years. Very nostalgic, look how young they all were < and us too >. I always thought the guy from Spandeau Ballet was hot. [:D]

Here's a few of mine:

This one

BKSir -> RE: Your Favorite Holiday Song (11/23/2009 3:53:15 PM)

Oooh yes, Bing and Bowie!  I love that song sooo much.  And I honestly have never seen the video for the Kinks song before.  I have the song though. :)

Littlewonder, have you ever heard it sung by Laura Bradley?  Probably my favorite rendition.

littlewonder -> RE: Your Favorite Holiday Song (11/23/2009 3:57:06 PM)

No, I've never heard of Laura Bradley but I'll be sure to look it up and listen to it.

I love hearing Ave Maria sung in church during the holidays in the traditional manner. It gives me a feeling of peace and contentment.

Oh my word!  You've found a winter/christmas/holiday song I've never heard of before.  AND by a fairly well known artist as well!  And I rather like it a lot. :)

BKSir -> RE: Your Favorite Holiday Song (11/23/2009 4:19:48 PM)

Awesome choices by everyone! LOVE IT! [:D]
I'm also looking at these lists and realizing that I have a truly disturbing amount of christmas music in my collection.

CarrieO, I highly agree with #3 of yours.  Greg Lake does my favorite version of that song that I've heard.

Nice, isn't it?

I've known it for quite a while. I don't play out much anymore, but I promised a coffee shop owner friend I'd join the roster of performers for her place. I'm putting it in a short set of winter songs, along with Devonsquare's "Walking on Ice."

Aylee -> RE: Your Favorite Holiday Song (11/23/2009 4:26:54 PM)

The Angel and the Little Blue Bell by Brenda Lee

I could not find a youtube link.

My daughter's chorus did a beautiful/powerful rendition of Masters In This Hall/March Of The Kings a few years ago, but I haven't been able to find anything similar on youtube in the past, but separately..

That sounds like a great deal of fun. :)  Going to have anyone filming/recording it?

EDIT:

I have that album on vinyl Aylee!  It sounds just... right.  Am I the only one that thinks that some things just sound better on vinyl or on cassette or even 8 track?  Not technically better but, they just sound right.

Curious, I've not seen Mame in soooooo long!  Great selection there.  Brought a huge huge grin to my face.

I hadn't planned on it--I do have some promos the local PBS station did a few years ago of "Walking on Ice" and a Leo Kottke medley (I donated a few concerts for the fund drive), but they're on three-track VHS tape. Maybe someone has a digital camera that could it. I'll ask.

That would be very cool.  And I'd imagine I don't speak just for myself when I say that I would love to see/hear it.  :)
