LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: -=The Thanksgiving Meal Thread=- (11/26/2009 7:02:13 PM)

My sister, my nephew's lady & I all pitched in & made:

Turkey
2 kinds of stuffing, mine had apples & pecans in it plus fresh sage
mashed yukon gold potatoes
Gravy
The best brussel sprouts ever--actual name of the recipe
greens from the garden
Nellie's salad
Savory sweet potato dish with mushrooms & don't know what else in it
punkin pie
sweet potato pie with pecans
these really good powdered sugar dusted lime cookies

I think that's all.  The green beans didn't come out so good, so we tossed the buggers.

Oh!!  They had wine, champagne, sparkling apple cider for the kiddos & Port with the cookies.  I tried a teensy little sip of the port & decided I don't have to do that again.

AquaticSub -> RE: -=The Thanksgiving Meal Thread=- (11/26/2009 8:09:59 PM)

Ugh... we went over to some fellow kinksters and got stuffed to the gills. Turkey, ham (though we didn't partake what with the kosher thing), stuffed mushrooms, cookies, pumpkin tarts, pies galore, mulled wine, various types of fudge, mac'n'cheese and my two different types of homemade cranberry sauce.

I feel so fat. And it was soooo worth it. Now I just need to work out for five hours tomorrow. I love my kinky friends. [:)]

Llyren -> RE: -=The Thanksgiving Meal Thread=- (11/26/2009 8:34:34 PM)

A friend just brought me over some pie!  A slice of shoo-fly pie, a slice of something called Thelma Briggs pie, and two slices of pumpkin..  So I did get to have pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving, but I'll save the rest for later.  I'm still feeling stuffed, and I even took a nap.

AquaticSub -> RE: -=The Thanksgiving Meal Thread=- (11/26/2009 8:45:12 PM)

CarrieO -> RE: -=The Thanksgiving Meal Thread=- (11/26/2009 8:59:32 PM)

-Arugula and fresh mint salad with olive oil
-crab cakes
-2 different turkeys...one boneless and smoked on the grill, the other roasted
-2 kinds of stuffing...sausage with cranberries, sage and fresh sourdough bread crumbs and one made with wild rice and dried fruits and pecans
-Green beans with sea salt
-Roasted broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts with fresh herbs
-Baked mashed potatoes with sour cream
-Fresh cranberry sauce
-Turkey gravy
-Apple crumble, blueberry pie and a chocolate/ginger cake with vanilla ice cream
-4 amazing wines...I LOVE red wine!!!

Lots of wonderful conversation, laughter, a reading of Allen Ginsberg's "Howl", many hugs and more love than I could ever wish for. All of this spent with my family of choice while The Grateful Dead played in the background.

Life is good and I have much to be thankful for.

LanceHughes -> RE: -=The Thanksgiving Meal Thread=- (11/26/2009 9:22:01 PM)

Faggot orphan meal - no other place to go - 7 of us decided to try to outdo each other:

Antipasto platter - 4 cheeses, two slamis (sp?), sliced tomatoes, tortollinei (sp?), assorted olives, marinated artichoke hearts (last three in individual red cabbabge leaf bowl)

I made my locally famous "Canape Florentine" (aka spinach balls - but too much laughter ensues) Youghurt and curry dip.

Main course:

Brined (and roasted) Turkey/ gravy from drippings
Homemade Cranberry sauce cooked in red wine and sugar
Mashed Potatoes w/ garlic
Dressing

3 different vegetables:
I made my traditional Peas and pearl onions in bechamel (sp?) sauce with nutmeg
Steamed Mixed veggies in light butter sauce (carrotts, bell peppers, snow peas, etc.)
Brussel sprouts - grilled, chilled with light vinagrette

Two kinds of rolls with hand churned, sweetened butter

Pies:
Apple with top crust a'la Ms. Stewart: use leaf shaped cookie cutters to make enough leaves to overlap the piled extra-high apples leaving enough room for vents and juices to run down leaf veins.....

"Regular" Pumpkin pie baked in a pumpkin-shaped pan with cookie leaves (see pie above) decorating surface.. twisted and curled as if falling from stem.

Gluten-free crust for third: Carmel rice cakes crushed as if graham crackers, brown sugar and butter. (Saved some of crust for stusel-type crumbles.)  Bluberry pie mix from can - hardly enough, so cut canned pears into it...... strusel on top.

Use real whipping cream - flavored with honey and cinnamon for last two....... oh, did I mention that's where the sweet butter came from - first batch went waaaaay too long. LOL!

tsatske -> RE: -=The Thanksgiving Meal Thread=- (11/26/2009 9:37:56 PM)

Traditionally, my family has Thanksgiving in my sister's home on Thanksgiving weekend, usually Saturday. A death in the family has cancelled that, and we were invited to join her in her home for her inlaws Thanksgiving, and they were very gracious in sharing their holiday with us.

Roast Turkey
real Mashed Potatoes
Giblet Gravy
the dressing recipie traditional to their family - a lovely hamburger stuffing
Homemade coleslaw
develed eggs
green beans
green peas
creamed corn
sweet potatoes in sweet glaze (no marshmellows, thankfully!)
rolls
cranberry sauce (from a can)

all served buffett style

And for dessert:
pumpkin pie
derby pie
and cool whip, of course
And, as my sister's inlaw's family tradition dictates, the following batches of Chrstmas cookies:
snickerdoodles
snowballs
raisin stuffed pillow cookies (which my sister makes flat, cut out of autumn cookie cutters and sandwiched)
and chocolate chip

Oh, and someone, I don't know who, brought the tiniest batch of pumpkin fudge - YUM!

and chrstimas music

the night before, it's family all over to cook together, with christmas music, and a big dinner of salad, garlic bread and spaggeghti and meatballs.

KMsAngel -> RE: -=The Thanksgiving Meal Thread=- (11/26/2009 9:45:06 PM)

that's it. i'm turning in my straight female card and becoming a gay male!

LanceHughes, can you overlook my bewbage?

LanceHughes -> RE: -=The Thanksgiving Meal Thread=- (11/26/2009 9:53:40 PM)

KMsAngel: No, not really, but you could be a "fag hag."  Usually terrible cook / seamstress / floral arranger / musician / dancer / singer.... let's see what else?  Well, EVERTHING except - heart of gold, secret keeper - sister you never had and always wanted to go shopping with. LOL!  Grace from Will & Grace.

One of my long-term (15 years) fag-hags had a b'day party for herself - asked me to make my panda cake for her.  She wouldn't tell me any of her other plans (50 people for her 50th.)  Turns out the little-Jew girl was making rumaki - y'know, wrapped in bacon!!!  Nearly burned her house down.  And the beverage was Margaritas - she made them in a punch bowl.... until she ran out of mix and had plenty of tequila and ice!  50 people - nothing to eat except a frosted cake and drinks got stronger and strongr as she stretched the mix - finally, pure tequila (with ice) until people were walking home, leaving their cars behind to pck-up thenext day.....

Woo!

Ab!Topic:  I polished off the last of the green bean casserole.  I don't know why that stuff is so addictive.
