I'm not so sure that that's true, either.  I think it depends on the woman and whether the man she's with is making an idiot of himself in reference to a third party.  Women, unless they're beautifully dressed (or really badly dressed), don't register on me, and when I'm out with someone, male or female, the conversation is generally lively enough that we don't notice much of anything outside of our immediate circle.  For the most part, I find your generalisations tenuous, at best.

I have to agree with this one.  This may have to do with the fact that I'm straight or with the fact that I'm usually the type to be more focused on whatever it is that I'm actually doing (involved in conversation, etc) than people watching.  I'm more likely to notice a woman's outfit or boots if they are My style, rather than the woman herself.

But to assume that women decide what is sexy is a bit naive, because if women were truly calling the shots on what's hot, we wouldn't be getting billions of dollars in plastic surgery every year, wearing thongs (I don't believe anyone when they say 'no really, thongs are super compfy'.), or cramming our feet into painful shoes. If women decided what was sexy, there would be one tenth of the number of eating disorders.

I completely disagree with you. I think women would still do those because they'd want to outdo the other women. I think that is a huge part of why women do it now. And for the record, yes a thong can be comfy. I didn't used to believe it either. It depends on your body size and what kind of thong you get.

Yeah, but why are they competing with eachother? To attract men.

Not always. To be snarky - sometimes it's to attract women.

And it really isn't always about attracting men, it's having the attention of being the most beautiful and as we compete we are defining what is important. I see this in myself and it's not one of my better qualities. I don't care if I get a man at a specific event (I've got the covered ring on my finger so I won [;)]), I just want to make sure I look stunning in comparison to any female I've had a spat with recently.

Quite frankly, and having plenty of exposure to feminist theory and modern feminism, I dislike this "blame the men" approach to women's issues.

That's so, totally believable of so many women. *Chuckle*

I agree.  After all, there are so many other things we can blame them for.

No problem.  This is just light conversation.  i'm not trying to prove a theorem.

Hmmm.  I've heard plenty of at least half-plausible arguments as to why women get thin - premised on the idea that, however indirectly, it's men's fault.

However, I've not seen one that believably puts women's overweight down to men's nastiness.  Do men ever tie women to the bed and force-feed them chocolate?  Perhaps femsubs could supply a story or two here.  Or at least a fantasy . . .

Actually, there is a big fetish around feeders... just saying! [;)]

Hierodule -> RE: Is female dominance real? (12/3/2009 7:35:45 PM)

Super fast reply = just my two cents: I don't have any experience in a Fem Domme relationship. However my gut tells me that gender roles have nothing to do with Dominance or submission. I have noticed, reading profiles here that some  Dommes want a manly guy to dominate. They want him to pamper them, fix stuff around the house, open doors for them, make them feel beautiful etc. That doesn't mean they can't be in control or wield power over that man and when they do it doesn't make them any less feminine. Its a mistake to equate feminine with submissive and masculine with Dominant. I feel that a Fem Domme relationship can contain traditional gender roles or not. It doesn't make the woman any less Dominant to be feminine or the man any less submissive if he is masculine.

I'm sure women do thin for men. I got thin for general vanity - I didn't want to be 200 pounds in my wedding pictures. Others get thin for their health. I'm not saying that men aren't a factor in how women perceive themselves.

Just that so are other women, their mothers and their friends. There isn't one key problem.

Though I could probably make a decent-sounding but BS arguement about how women gain weight because they turn to chocolate after male rejection because men are such assholes.
