FR

Is somebody going to come along and play the race card in here?  After all, the Willie Horton thing was just a "code" for racism, wasn't it? ...  Yeah.  Probably not going to happen...

I certainly hope Huckabee is done.  If he wasn't pro-life, he'd be just another liberal democrat.

Brain -> RE: Is Huckabee done as a Pres.candidate (12/1/2009 7:39:37 PM)

I just wanted to say, while I applaud his compassion in granting clemency because nothing can be done to bring back those police officers I find that he has very similar dangerous views to Sarah Palin.

Brain -> RE: Is Huckabee done as a Pres.candidate (12/1/2009 7:42:44 PM)

Anybody who would govern the United States according to their interpretation of the holy Bible and what they think it tells or says what we should do is dangerous.

Compassion should not have been his primary criteria when deciding these paroles and commutations.The safety and security of his constituency and justice should have taken primacy over any compassion issues.
I can't applaud any compassion that led in any way to this tragedy.

popeye1250 -> RE: Is Huckabee done as a Pres.candidate (12/1/2009 10:43:23 PM)

Yeah, anytime any pol mentions the word "compassion" you just know that there a sales job to follow! And that it's going to cost "us" money for their cockamamy "compasionate" idea!
These guys want to do everything under the sun except for their *jobs* it seems.
Why do we have to pick presidents from "politicians?
How's about picking someone who's never been elected to office before? It's like "pols" think that one of them should be "rewarded" with the presidency or something. Because they've "been around" for awhile. I don't think the founding fathers would have approved of "career politicians."
And why are they paid so much more than the people they represent for what are essentially "messenger" positions if they do the job right and actually *listen* to their constituents? And look at those old fucks Bird and Spector, 91 and 81 respectively, that's just stupid! We really do need term limits and age limits for the congress.
I'd like to see "non-pols" in the W.H. and no more Repubs or Dems ever!

From what I have read Huckabee commuted the guy's sentence from 108 years to 47 years. The Arkansas parole board let the guy go.

True, the commutation however made Clemmons available for parole.

Personally, I hold Maurice Clemmons accountable for what Maurice Clemmons did.

Never cared for Huckabee as a candidate as I couldn't get this whole "Gomer Pyle" image out of my head.

That, and the fact that his wife looked like she could take him in a two out three arena of hand to hand combat.

Some guys are into that, though: there's a lot of them on here for a start...

Southern Baptist, the evangelical/fundamentalists that even most mainstream Baptists reject.

You waited 10 months just for the chance to say that? Jesus. As long as you were going to wait that long, you might as well have used the time for something constructive. Like a high-school level English class, maybe.

Ahh, that reminds me of the days of Firing Line, when Wm. F. Buckley was debating Malcom Muggerige on the concept of the eschaton, and duality of faith and transcendence.

"Mainstream?" lol Oh, so those are the ones who are only "half nuts?"
Being a former catholic I wouldn't want to see "Father Feeley" in any political office either.
