What about a Britta filter?  You know, the ones that come with a pitcher?  I have 2 at work and go through them 2 times over daily.  The water there is nasty but the filter helps.

Status: offline 		I was going to suggest that, Carrie. Our water is from a well, but its too hard for drinking, so we get the gallons of water from Walmart for cooking and drinking. The well water is used for washing dishes and clothing.

I'm fortunate in that my water is from an underground spring that my landlord has filtered by using a UV filter.  It tastes better than most bottled water.  Given the amount I drink each day, I would be broke if I bought bottled all the time.  It might be more cost-effective to look into a filtration system of some kind.
I grew up using well water and remember the times we couldn't use it to drink or cook because of contamination.
