You made the correlation between smarts and guns. You seem a little tense and angry....

The popular term on the younger message boards is "butthurt." That's what it's called when someone strikes a nerve with a simple comment and you let them piss you off.

And yes I get a little tense when some schmuck on a message board has the nerve to characterize my parenting as anything less than the best I could do with the one I love more than life itself.
sorry about that,I'm funny that way.

And yet...you refuse to see how advocates for responsible gun ownership feel the same way. I feel that the best way to show my love for my family is to be prepared for anything that might happen. I haven't seen a single post by a gun owner saying that they think all people should be forced to own a gun. And yet those opposed all feel that no one should have one. You have every right to defend your family in any way you want. I also have that right. I choose to protect my family with a gun. My daughters are six and eight. They both shoot andf they are both learning all of the safety aspects of owning a gun. They even shoot at a range that the local state police barracks uses. They've shot side by side with troopers. They are taught to respect the power they have in their hands. And even with all of that teaching...every gun we own is securely locked in a gun safe with trigger locks. Bullets are locked separately in a different location. They are taught that any and every gun is loaded and should be treated as such. They're also quite good at archery and both have expressed an interest in hunting. They will learn this in a safe and responsible manner too.

Funny, I was thinking you should do the same. Though in your case I would add that you shouldn't resort to insults and petty bullshit unless you can stand to get it back.

You clearly can't.

Aileen you indicated in an earlier post that I made a corralation between smarts and guns....clearly I didn't open that particular door....Loki did that.In a follow-up post you made the spurious claim that all proponents of gun control seek to remove all guns from all hands...again wrong.
I really have no need to continue this little spitting match with you.....especially given the fact that I keep having to defend myself against a) things I never said   and b)corralations I never initiated.
If you have an issue with people who would equate parenting with ones veiws on guns....speak to Loki...he's the idiot that opened that door.

Sure. And then when faced with a situation like Orion was, they can watch their kids die.

You look after yours your way (which is to say cowardly and unsuccessfully), and I'll look after mine my way.
Mine is a senior at NYU on the Deans List...despite my cowardly and unsuccessful stewardship.....any other bullshit you feel a need to sling?
p.s. He's a double major...who will still finish in 4 years.

Mike,

I respect the fact that you chose to raise your children in a gun free environment. Hell, I admire yoursons dedication to his education with a double major at NYU. Smart kid from the sounds of it. I'm no coward, and I feel I'm pretty successful as a parent. Mu kids love and resect me and their momma. I taught my kids about guns. Mind you, they're both young still but they know that mommy and daddys's guns are tools, NOT weapons. They also know not to touch them without us there and to not even make make jokes or threaten to use them. You sounded successful in the way youraised your children, which is great. But please don't condemn others who do teach their children how to handle a tool safely and responsibly. I feel I can honestly say that I have forgotten more about guns than most citiizens even know. My grandfather ued to build muzzleloaders in his basement. He even used to make percussion and flintlock mechanisms for Dixie Gun Works. His lock mechanisms (the part that contains the trigger and firing pin) were all made to his specifications. He even made the springs that were needed in them. When he actually built the whole gun, he checkered the stock and forearm as well. Getting back on subject here, firearms are a personal choice. Either you want to own them or you don't. I don't want the government or in my opinion, it's blindly led sheep of naysayers telling me what I can and cannot own for tools. I have a C.C.W. as well as Federal Firearms Liscense. That means not only can I legally carry my sidearms legally, I can also act as a gun dealer, selling guns. I have ordered shotguns and rifles for people, and even pistols for a few trusted individuals. The pistol sales were fully legal and by the book. I dotted every i and crossed every t. I have no guilt or shame in selling, buying or owning my firearms.

Now Mike, back to my post of "when, NOT if", yes damn near the whole American population will be the victim of a crime. The point I think you filed to grasp was we dn't get to pick the crime we suffer. It may be our car getting keyed as you pointed out, OR it could be a breaking and entering like in my or Orions case. We don't know what crime we'll be victims of until it happens. My mom always use to say an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure. Just because some punk keys my car doesn't mean I'll use deadly force, or even draw my gun. That would be stupid and if I did so, I fully expect to be arrested and serve time. Now, some asshole breaking into my home and very possibly putting my family in harms way? I'll leave his corpse right where it lands for the police to examine. Make no mistake Mike, I know when and where and how and why to use a firearm.

What I want you to sit back and think about Mike is this. IF the anti-firearm brigade gets their agenda accomplished, and ALL firearms are banned. What's next? Alcohol? Tobacco? Automobiles? Video games? Alternative lifestyles? Religion? People need to wake up and realize that these special interest groups are out for two things. Money/power, and to control our lives. Period. End of story, they don't want us to question them or their decisions....just follow blindly and be sheep. Do you HONESTLY believe the gun gontrol zealot when he says firearms are evel and he would never own one? I'll guarantee he has a 38 special in HIS bedside table. Their logic is it's okay for them to own the guns because they are the morally correct people. The masses don't need them since the police only deal with the dreg of society. These anti-firearm zeaots are warped in their thinking. They say the cops only deal with lowlifes, which is not true. Yes, the cops do deal with criminals and thugs. That's their job. But they also deal with the victims and the families of victims who may or may not be economic or socially lower classed. They go to schools and talk to kids, teach them about crime and how to help prevent it. That's isn't dealing with lowlives. That's teaching our children to be responsible.
How would you feel Mike, if a special interest group was to start attempting to control or outlaw something you enjoy? I don't care if it's drinking, smoking, beer/wine-making, Hell, even underwater basket weaving would be a good example. Take your activity, as long as you were following applicable laws, using common sense as well as following safety precautions, who is the special interst group to say you can't make homemade wine due to the amount of alcoholics? Think about that.

Okay...for what I hope is the last time....
I never drew a correlation between intelligence and parenting...nor guns and parenting....talk to loki concerning that bullshit argument.
Second...I never called for a banning of private ownership of all firearms....I have no idea who you speak to about that one.

Whats your point here loki...how about finding the post I was reacting to...you know the one where you did suggest that the answer to school shootings was more guns in the schools....not less.
I need no help from you in proving my point where you are concerned.....why you insist on making this easier for me is beyond my imagination.
But thanks anyway.

gehennasfury -> RE: Defended my home (12/9/2009 7:00:02 AM)

In that case Mike, I stand corrected. However, my points still stand in the debate of the pros and cons of firearm control.

But see, you keep proving MY point. You see the post you are referring to (but won't quote because you know you're mistaken) is post number  403. In that post, I said:

quote:

ORIGINAL:
Yeah, in the incorrect quarters it speaks to the availability of guns. But thanks for proving my point on the need for education.

You see, someone who will shoot up a school will do other things, as well. The columbine kids brought homemade bombs too, ones that can be made easily with innocent, store-bought items.

So let's talk about availability in the school scenario for a moment. The law-abiding ones who obey the sign on the school door are nothing but targets to someone willing to break the law.

Now, were they able to have their own guns for defense, perhaps they could stop the shooter.

But as I said first, it *does* speak more about parenting because for a kid to reach the point where a school shooting is a good idea, the ball was dropped long before he gets a hold of the gun.

To help you out, I marked what you focused on in italics. But I marked what you blatantly overlooked in bold. You can't pick and choose points in a single post that you think make your point. You have to read the whole thing. I know reading isn't your strong suit, but come on. Give it a try. You'll get it eventually.
