this slave recently had the opportunity to appreciate her increased level of inner strength, which this slave believes has come as a direct result of her service to Master. there have been times in the past when this slave would cave in, to family and friends, especially when they came with a really good sob story, and accept whatever burden was laid out to her by them.
too hard for ya? it's ok, this slave will do it.....
don't have the time? it's ok, this slave will make the time...
just can't deal with _____________ for one more second? it's ok, this slave will handle it...
itches so bad you just can't stand it? it's ok, this slave will scratch it...
gotta problem you just can't figure out the answer to? it's ok, this slave will do the mental work for ya...

this slave always saw it as fulfilling a purpose, filling a void, helping those less fortunate or less knowledgeable, being a "good" family member, etc. it's a fine line between helping out and being blatantly taken advantage of, to the detriment of ones own self or others. Master has helped this slave to increase her level of inner strength and communicate it to others directly involved in her life.

I've always believed that it takes strength to be a slave; it takes confidence. One of the responsibilities of a Master is to empower the slave and bring out that confidence. If, in no other way, than saying to the slave; "I have your back"; meaning it, and living up to it. Collectively the M/s couple is more than the individuals that make up its parts. Both benefit from the relationship.

In the case of beth, it's amazing to see the reaction of her "friends" and family when she tells them no, or no longer enables them to shirk their responsibilities and put them on her back; or when she no longer takes on their problems as her own. Orwell applied a negative connotation to associating "Freedom" through "slavery"; in beth's case, it's reality. she is not only free, but strong.

I think it takes strength to be true to yourself, I think it takes strong people to make strong relationships and that good relationships help people become stronger in who they are and always form a stronger whole.

I think slavery is a greath path for this to occur and I wish I heard more stories like this- of slaves who actually find they are MORE capable, MORE powerful, MORE able to function and be fulfilled in themselves.

Yes, Edian does. And I as well feel empowered.
I've learned to definitely say no to others. I have a list of priorities and if my assistance to them isn't as important or interferes with my priorities, than I cannot do anything for them. The inner strength I've gained is being able to say no without guilt. Afterall I would be more 'guilty' if I found myself doing for others if it interfered with my doing for He and my children.

Mine actually goes in the opposite direction. Sometimes He wishes I were not as strong as I am, because that inner strength, combined with my dominant tendencies, makes it VERY difficult for me to be the meek, unassuming servant girl He sometimes wants.

It can be a double edged sword, but think of it like this- would he prefer that you are too weak to understand yourself and put efforts towards training in accordance to his preferences? Or that you are strong enough to endure the training and continue to work for that goal?

Also, perhaps teaching yourself that there is strength in being meek and unassuming. Try and move your natural expressions of strength into these particular expressions of strength.

I absolutely agree. The last five years have been an amazing growth experience for me. I was strong, confident and capable before I entered this lifestyle but I am even more so now.

I believe that any time you embark on a life course that demands introspection, self-honesty, and the support of loved ones, you grow and learn. Submission has done that for me.

Way to go, Beth, it's always wonderful when someone shares such a positive step in their lives!

For me, this is one of the spiritual sides of submission. When I engage in what is known as "humiliation" is takes the form of "humbling".

This, for me is not the same as degradation play, as is sometimes confused with humiliation.

When one humbles oneself, one finds the strength to act in a way that puts the ego aside. This can be an amazingly spiritual experience. If you imagine a priest facedown on the floor before an altar, or other similar religious behaviours, you can get the idea.

It takes great strength to put the ego aside and exist in the moment, without thought for the future. It's something I could not truly grasp until BDSM. Humiliation scenes are one way I have learned to reach that state. Unquestioning obedience to one I trust, is another.

I know this is 'Ask a submissive/slave'...still I would say this is exactly what I seek; I feel proud when she accomplishes dreams she thought impossible, when she grows, spiritually, emotionally, intellectually...when she doesn't allow others to walk on her but recognize that she is worth more than their assumptions.

Absolutely, or else I would not have asked him to own me.

The lifestyle in general, my discovering the piece of me that had been missing in my life, meeting some wonderful people, and other aspects about it definitely both inspired and encouraged my inner strength. However, through Master's support, encouragement, love, and strength, I have been able to rise even higher and do so more every day.

Yes, Master has given me the courage and the freedom to do many things. He has helped me grow in more way then i can ever tell you. He helped me find a backbone so i can say NO. Like beth, i never said no. I took the world on and tried to "fix" it. I helped everyone except myself. Now that i look back I often did things and took on the responsibilities of others so i didn't have to look at my self... in a sense it was a way of hiding. I am still a care giver, i still help others but now it is in a healthier way. I no longer look for my Freedom by pleasing the world because i found Freedom in being Master's slave.

Some people think they need a master/ mistress to give then strenght, but i don't think that is true. I think it can be nutured and a person can become stronger. I have always had inner strength and i nutured it myself. I am one of those people who can take care of myself but i love to be taken care of and now i have a wonderful Master to take care of me.

Great thread, Merc and beth. i had forgotten where i had put my strength when he met me. He led me back inside myself to find it. In doing so, i have found strength, courage, bravery, and confidence. i have reconnected with friends and family who i had estranged myself from. i have launched ahead in my job. i am back in school, finally finishing my degree which i previously had to abandon. i have become a better person.

i would not have done that without his wisdom, care, and strength to draw from. So yes, he very much inspires and encourages me to find my inner strength. In turn, he finds my submission more appealing and more meaningful, to see how strong i am to the rest of the world, yet to fall to the floor before him.

i also understand what cinful is saying about humiliation, although degredation takes me there as well. It brings me to face the raw, "ugly" honesty within, become stronger for having faced it, and cling to him even more tightly in my submission. It is quite powerful.

I think what He would prefer is a more malleable blend of the two extremes.

Yes, but it was an inner strength that was already there. I'm human and falter sometimes but overall I'm a very strong willed person as well as being decently self-confident. Thats one of the things that attracted him to me. He's always been pretty clear that he only wanted a strong and intelligent women without a squeaky voice for a slave. And thats what he got.

He does, in every way, encourage me to be strong and confident. I was a complete person in myself before we found each other, but i am definitely stronger than i was. He has often said that He appreciates having a woman who, although she doesn't NEED Him to take care of her, allows Him to do so. And He does so wonderfully, even sometimes when i think i don't want Him to lol.

There are all different kinds of strength. I have always been an extremely independent and capable woman. Much as beth described in the OP, I have frequently been the one to take care of others or fix things or solve problems, etc. I agree that I don't need a dominant in my life to continue to be that independent and strong woman.

Much of the strength I have gained from Master is to learn to lean on someone else, which was nearly impossible for me, mostly due to fear, but also some due to ego. Through him, I have found the strength to face some of my fears and am working at others and my submission has helped me rediscover a humility that reminds me that I am definitely not superwoman, capable of doing everything -- and that is okay. When I help others as I always have in the past, I have his additional strength to lean on and support me. He has given me the strength to confide in someone as I have no one else before.

These are things that are not directly reflected in my independence or my abilities to take care of myself and my children, but nonetheless is still inner strength with a value that is priceless.

For the last three and a half years Master has been trying to get me to say no to those that would take advantage of me...i am finally able to do so sometimes. He told me doormats are cheap and common. i made a i little plaque i have hanging in O/our dungeon (she has embraced the power within then surrendered it joyfully she is slave)....i learned in order to give Him my power i have to own it for i cannot give something i do not posess.

This year has been a trying one and i am finally just getting back on track now to taking care of myself. i wish i could find better words to say Thank You Master.

seems to me beth you are most fortunate to have such a loving Guide in your life. keep up the good work and take care of His cherished property.

thanks, LA...it is a big reason why this slave started the thread. this slave logs on sometimes and wishes there were more positive thoughts, energies, stories and discussions going on as opposed to the wallowing, whining, shit-starting and inane rants that sometimes take over.

this slave understands the importance of threads discussing what preferences one desires in a sub/slave/Master/Owner, etc. or questions about particular techniques or activities. she has noticed that they generate a lot of positive discussion. but when it comes down to relationship dynamics, for those of us that have chosen to live this FULLY PRESENT each and every moment of the day, it is refreshing for this slave to see positive threads that talk about positive aspects of M/s or D/s relationship dynamics. hopefully others will run with that energy and post about their own experiences.

TRUE DAT!!! unfortunately, this slave believes that some folks create obstacles to that by worrying about, over-planning, insisting on a one-true-way future they can't possibly foresee, unless they are truly gifted psychics...and therefore miss out on TODAY, never able to be fully present in THIS moment because they are too hung up on the one that happened before or the one that is coming up~this slave knows firsthand, as she has spent as short as a moment on some things and as long as a few years on others getting out of vicious cycles that reinforce negative emotions, behaviors and consequences...but that's another thread!!!

Thanks everyone...and one more question...what other things does your Master/Dom/me/Owner/yougetthepoint/ encourage and inspire from within you? it could be anything, emotional, behavioral, the writing of poetry, spontaneous laughter...???
