This is why the United States went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan: Oil. It’s all about companies like Shell and Exxon and Chevron and Halliburton being able to make money. It’s sad, for me anyway, so many kids like Pat Tillman had their lives wasted. I can’t imagine how a person like Dick Cheney how his conscious doesn’t bother him, no remorse whatsoever; chicken hawk If I was Dick Cheney I would hate myself, what a despicable person. And what a joke George Bush trying to say he was bringing freedom and democracy to Iraq when at home all he did was implement The Patriot Act and take away the rights of Americans.

Shell Wins Rights To Iraq's Giant Manjoon Oil Fields

BAGHDAD — Iraq's hope of luring international oil companies with its mother lode of oil met with mixed results Friday, with only two deals struck as security fears appeared to weigh heavily on the country's second oil auction this year.

Of the 15 fields on offer in the first day of the two-day international licensing round, deals were struck on two fields in the relatively calm southern region of Iraq, while five located in more restive regions were withdrawn and a sixth field drew only one bid

This didn’t get reported much, if at all, in American media.

Alan Greenspan claims Iraq war was really for oil

Of course the war was about oil. Most of the last administration was about oil. The katrina disaster was about oil.

Will Leftists never be happy until all American companies are completely destroyed?

Even then they'll blame the smoldering ruins on Bush...

You knew that someday a contract would be entered into with some country where there was military action, and some idiot would say "It was all about oil".

This is the problem with any kind of dependency on other nations. There may be absolutely no truth in it at all but because there is the implication people will believe it is true and resentment to the west will continue in that part of the world. Are you going to try and convince the victim of a junkie that the crime had nothing to do with drugs and that drug use is ok?

I always find it amusing that people get outraged about the lies said about their governments rather than finding easy ways to demonstrate interests in other nations are above board. If we only do such deals in stable nations then we show our interest in troubled nations is for one reason only; helping them.

The problem is: why are these nations troubled in the first place? Look at the plot by Mark Thatcher and co in Equatorial Guinea. There is always someone in the west looking to profit from people that don't know what value the things they have are worth to the rest of us. We had oil but we used big portions of it up and now it is cheaper to plot overthrowing governments etc. where costly oil exploration projects have identified oil fields than to start fresh new exploration projects elsewhere. Do you think it a coincidence that we are going to these places at this late date rather than when oil production was at its peak in the west? Oil companies themselves may not be involved but there are plenty of facilitators floating about to bring about leadership changes more agreeable to them. The oil company makes the investment in terms of exploration but to profit must get the oil at a price that covers that expense. A militia may want a price closer to the end price they see on the international market because they don't understand exploration costs so the question then becomes 'can I get this oil much cheaper with a little bit more capital investment i.e. bringing about change and dealing with people that understand exploration costs?'

You know how it works don't plead the ignorance. The oil companies are tied into these fields because they have already invested so much in finding oil there. Someone external to the oil company will then act as facilitator for a fee, they may not have any direct dealings with the oil company in this but if they are in control of the situation on the ground then this is who the oil company will need to go through. These countries are probably so messed up because of all these failed attempts to put the right people in charge, people that subsequently then care more about their status and position than the oil. So the oil is forgotten and the whole process starts over. Which is why you see one times allies suddenly becoming dangerous foes and the evil deeds they do with consistently throughout their lives we can suddenly no longer ignore.

I personally will be happy when the conservatives stop using the Robber Baron model of government as their guideposts. But that's just me.

No, WD, we believe there were WMD in Iraq and the WMD fairy made them all disappear so that the Americans wouldn't have to bother cleaning them up. We believe that suddenly, in a burst of post 9/11 realization, we realized that we had to start freeing the poor oppressed people of the middle east and Bush thought that he was doing it alphabetically by going after Iraq. We think that Bush actually believed that attacking a country that had nothing whatsoever to do with 9/11 would send a message to the sort of terrorists that perpetrated 9/11.

Oil? I'm sure that Bush was shocked to find out that Iraq had any oil at all.

Shell, a dutch company with some american interests, at days end gets an oil contract....(insert cost of war in Iraq here)

Obamas stimulus creates about 12000 summer jobs (insert stimulus cost here)

Hmmmmmmmmmm, even in the worst light, Obamas plan is better.

In the best light you're comparing what you claim to be a bad plan to another bad plan....

Must be the new reality - bad is actually good.

So you are conceding that the invasion of Iraq was a "bad plan"?

Read what I wrote, mike. I said "what you claim to be a bad plan..."

One thing that Bush failed to plan for in the liberation of Iraq was how far the lefts hate would drive them towards undermining something their representatives in Congress all voted for.

Greetings..

Shell Oil is only the US affiliate of a international corporation who's parent company is Royal Dutch Shell. Wouldn't that make it reach a little further than just oil hungry Americans?

I disagree that the was all about oil ..but I do agree that a countries natural resources are factored into the planning process when invading said country.

It's fucking scandalous, of course, but everybody knew about this since the invasion began six fucking years ago. Even those self-righteous wankers that argued about weapons of mass destruction and the liberation of the Iraqi people knew it really was all about big business interests and nothing else.

No, what they failed to plan for was anything after initial attack and the Iraquis greeting them as saviors with open arms.

The initial attack worked. It has been ALL downhill from there...

You don't think that the far left's antics emboldened al-Qaeda in Iraq, and the remnants of  Sadam's killing machine?
